I'm new to the forums, am growing many little cacti and other slow-growing succulents from seed, in peat pots. I keep them only as damp as necessary to ensure continued growth, but the peat pot edges produce a green moss which eventually works onto the soil surface and finally to the little seedlings. Any solutions for this? I have, I think, plenty of light and not too much water.

Howdy KJM...is the green stuff really hurting the seedlings? Or just an eye-sore? The dampness is definitely a factor here but not necessarily means "damping off". Sometimes you can just stir the soil a bit to aerate it. Some folks use chamomile tea in a spray bottle to control damping off and various mold growths. I've heard a tiny amount of hydrogen peroxide in water and sprayed on it willl help.
