I stumbled on a little plant today while doing some surfing, and thought I'd add it to the database. Lindernia grandiflora, aka Blue Moneywort. My search for hardiness, height, etc. led me to several commercial sites, and just for giggles and grins, I thought I'd share what I found:
PDN wants $8 for it (up from $7 last year); Yucca Do wants $5 (up from $4 last year), and Hughes Water Gardens (aka The Water Garden Shop) wants $3.99.
Are these companies all offering the same size plant? It's hard to say, since none of them lists the sizes of their plants (at least not in a visible spot ;) But the lesson I learned is to definitely shop around before I order!

It pays to compare prices :)
You've got to stop go_vols! Your killing me. Each time you mention a new place I have to go and look it up. Of course one thing leads to another and I'm digging in my purse for my credit card. STOP! PLEASE! *grin*
Kristi
Welcome to my world, Kristi! Just imagine the exquisite torture of spending hours each day reviewing websites for new plants and cool gardening stuff - scanning descriptions for the PDB and keeping an eye out for sources to add to the Watchdog. I'm thinking of getting a drool-proof cover for my keyboard ;0)
comparison shopping is why it takes me soooooo long to make out my orders. I have winnowed the possibilities down some due to past experience and the GWD, but I still have about 5 places that I check, compare, make lists, go back and look at seed count, pot size, bare root, it's almost a full time job for about two weeks. Then, I fill out the orders, write the checks, send them out and A NEW CATALOG COMES IN THE MAIL!!!!!! ARGGGGGGGGGGH. I don't think I could do what you do GV - they'd carry me out in a strait jacket!
Hey GV,I was working my way down the price scale looking for gunnera, when you came up with Trans-pacific!I have to agree with Datdog, you saved me money on gunnera, then showed me where to spend 3 times more.LOL
Sigh. It's a tough job, but somebody's gotta do it...*grin*
GV Why did you pull Trans?
I happened to remember they had some unusual plants, and had gotten good comments from customers :) And they're on the West Coast, which I figured would help with SoCal's shipping dilemma. I'm glad you were able to find what you were looking for!
Ya know how in those ritzy NY stores how they have "Shoppers" the ones who go shopping for other people
gv,can you be my shopper?I'll give you the list, and send you the money, you just dig up the best deal and get it for me...OK
Oh..what do you get out of it?
Research.....
And I'll promise to post YOUR shopping experience in the Watch dog!
Not going for it are you??????
Dang,it woulda been the one time I only got what was on my list.I would have been sooooo proud of myself.....
