I think a few of us need a bit of a winter pick-me-up. Anyone have any pictures of our gardens last summer?
Canadian gardens
Nice one Jeanne. Could look at that forever.
Show us your pond Ruth Ann (and your knees! LOL)
Anyone else?
I think some nice sunny pictures are in order right about now.
Do I ever seem to drop by at the wrong time of year or what!
Have you got a camera yet Dennis?
There is a camera I can use but there is a lack of motivation on my part.
When my sangs get their act together, watch out.
How lovely Carol!! Your garden is gorgeous! How I would love a flat garden.
Tell me about your gazebo - is that Jackmanii? and what else?
Carol, that's the only gazebo I've seen that fit nicely into the landscape without intrusion. You aren't cordoned off from the garden.
LOLOLOL Ruth Ann. When I found that site on the web I had absolutely no doubt it was you. I don't think it had your last name on it did it?
Nice knees :~))
Crystal how many castors did it take to achieve that mass?
Liz - There is only 4/5 planted on that side of the garden, the span they had was about 5 or 6 feet each.
I think in this picture there is only 2 and a half showing.
All these pics are so welcomed at this time af the year, thanks for starting this thread Liz!
Thanks for all your compliments.
Liz..yes that is a jackmanni.....the other clematis that covers the top of the gazebo is Golden Tangutica..tiny yellow flowers when it is bloom. I planted another clematis on the left side of the entry which
is a Josephine (mauve double) flowers..but it is only about two feet high so far. On the backside of the Gazebo is Chinese Wisteria..that bloomed for the first time last year. It was it's fourth summer.
Dennis, the frame is made of cedar logs..it sits in the centre of many apple trees...part of an old orchard..I don't do anything with the apple trees..just let nature take it's course. It is on the back third of my one acre property..I call it The Secret Garden..as you walk down a pathh through the trees and it opens up to several small gardens and sitting areas. I have a Hosta garden under the trees..and what I call the "Statue garden" that you walk through an arbour made of Apple wood branches. and in each bed I have a statue.
I received two new statues for Christmas that I'll have to find spots for. Those are Heavenly Blue Morning Glories over the Apple arbour..but I have new clematis planted under there too..this year the clematis (Proteus and President) should have grown enough to cover it.
Enjoy!
I love ALL your pictures! Thank you for sharing them.
Makes me wonder why I don't grow a few things - like morning glory.
Jeez Ruth Ann - what have you fed that thing?
Carol, the trick is to start them indoors, 2 months before your last frost, if you do not have a position in the garden that gets FULL sun.
Even doing mine this way, that mammoth one of mine bloomed so late that the seeds did not have a chance to totally ripen so I am stuck having to buy them this year again.
The PLUS about the Castor Beans for me is that I can place my Brugs nearby in their pots and the Castors give them the dappled shade they need from the mid day sun.
If you think digging up your Brugs is hard in the fall, try to dig up one of the mammoth Castors LOL LOL!
That pond is my 6th and last. The others I have removed or made into Lotus gardens.
Stunning! Absolutely stunning!!
Ruth Ann, did you start yours indoors early or what!!!!:)
Mine got a start about mid February but I grew them slow by keeping them in little pots for a while since I ran out of space in the sun room and had to put 2x8's across my shelfs just to keep them.
Starzz - Some of mine were smaller over by the pond and did not bloom, I kinda neglected a bit to much. But still a nice display of foliage.
Well this is going so well, I think I shall post another pic.
Gazebo is a bit further done than when this pic was taken but ...still not finished and I cannot plant around it because Rob says it will get trampled by the tractor when they finish it and put the bird house on top.
Crys
Liz, the variety of the Castor Bean is 'Zanzibariensis' (Dominion Seed house has it on Page 17 in their book).
I sure am glad it only got morning sun [snork]. The down side is that the seeds did not quite ripen before that frost hit it.
Likely the fertilizer I gave to the Brugs near it got picked up by its roots as well.
Jeanne, Murphy only uses a leather couch when he has on this outfit....
Oops sorry folks, I missed sizing thic pic and cant seem to remove it and do it now.

Liz,I see your big ole Gunnera in the back of the top photo,:0),What a great looking shot,Looks like I am gonna have to make a trip north to sit in some of these great gazebos,I can tell you one thing,Give me a glass of ice tea,and sit me down in the middle of those Brugs and Roses,Brugcrazy that looks like the most inviting spot I have seen in some time! Root.
you've got good eyes Rooty - lol. That's what the leaves look like late June beginning of July - our hydrangeas bloom early July.
Oh Chrys..I love the top of your Gazebo..just beautiful..and the flowers in front are lovely..
I would love to see more pics of it when it is finished.
RA49..thanks for the tip about starting the castor beans inside. Could you please show us a pic of your Lotus garden?
I'm not sure what it is.
By the way, somebody here tell me about Ricinus Z. ....I received some seeds today from Britain....should I plant them and then have to run away from home or???? Elaine
Elaine, I am in Burlington, Ont.
I start mine inside (about mid march I think), let them get 3 sets of true leaves, then move them down to my GH that stays at about 15C in the spring. The cooler temp. slows the upper growth but keeps the roots growing so that they have a strong healthy root system when I can plant them outdoors after May 24th here. The Red and the Green ones had time to flower, fruit and ripen this way but the "Z" did not have time for the seeds to ripen before the frost got them.
Your zone will allow you to move them out sooner and keep them growing longer so you should have no difficulty getting the "Z" seeds to ripen by starting them outdoors. (lucky you *sigh*)
I love your little 'flower'.
Starzz, that is a pic of one of my Lutus gardens 13 posts above this one. :)
