Has anybody done this? I have baked soil in my household oven (peeeeeuuuuu)! It stinks up the whole house. I thought maybe my old microwave could do the job in my future greenhouse and the smell wouldn't matter.
Microwave soil sterilization
I have read about others doing this. Just make sure you won't want the microwave for food again. From what I hear, the smell is permanent. Let us know how it turns out!
I had thought of sterilizing it on our outdoor grill. Anyone tried that?
I've heard (never tried it, so I can't vouch for it), but if you place the soil in a bag before you sterilize it (a "roasting bag" for regular oven; heat-proof ziplock-type for microwave), and you poke a few slits in it, the smell is contained (more or less) and the oven might be useable for food. Like I said, I'm tellin' ya what I've READ, not what I've done ;0)
