I've placed my largest seed orders (Pinetree, Baker Creek, JL Hudson, Stokes and Park Seed. Plus my smaller requests for seed to Tom Clothier and Emmy von Roest.)
I still need to renew my Flowers & Herb Exchange membership, and join SSE. (Is there a reason why you don't get a discount for joining both? They're both worthy causes, but a small price break would be nice.)
Now to get my seedbox organized, decide the sequencing of what to plant when, print out my plant markers, and clean out my GH in earnest ;0)
Gardening has taught me to anticipate and enjoy this time of year, instead of bemoaning the cold!
How about everyone else - are your orders placed yet? (I know some of you must have placed your orders weeks ago, since you're already starting some seeds!)
seed orders in yet?
I did just the oppisite...small orders have gone in.....big orders I'm saving for .But can't wait too long.....
I've only placed two orders for seeds this year (I think) one was to Pinetree the other to Tom Clothier. Speaking of seeds, does anyone know what on line supply store has the cheap starter pots- I can't recall the name. Thanks Kristi
go-vols- have you decided on another native plant co-op I so need some natives since my move. Thanks, Kristi
Had received my orders by the second week of Nov. I had to start lisianthus by Thanksgiving. Parks triple ordered my lisianthus and I now have over 1200 lizzy seedlings up. I'm holding off bumping them up to 4 1/2's because I don't want to fire up the greenhouse til 1st of March but I might not have a choice.
There is a fella on one of the forums, that has a business, called "Seeds for all seasons".......good site...ordered some rare seeds from him. the other suppliers, some mentioned, have always been good to me....and the germination strike is 90%! Elaine
I still haven't placed any seed orders, because I want to get all my ducks in a row first. I buy lots of seeds, so it's easy to duplicate orders or just get sucked into all the pretty pics. I spent all day working on a tentative list, so I think I'll go online to Stokes first. I think they have a quick order option so I don't get distracted by all the pictures!
I haven't even had a chance to look at the pile of seed catalogs I've got here. One of these next evenings I'm going to take the night off and do that so I can get my orders in before they are all sold out of the good stuff. :) I'm mostly concerned with the tomatos and peppers, because they need to be started indoors. I have some tomato seeds from Owen already, but I want some more varieties. I am going to join SSE too.
Joan, do you ever order online? It's especially easy if you already have the hard copy catalog with the numbers. Many sites offer quick order if you do.
hehehe, true confession time: I get a bit obsessive about my seed orders. I set up a spreadsheet, with columns for plant name, number of seeds/packet, price, company name and their code for that seed. Then I start plugging all the "wish list" seeds in, sort it to see who's got the best price/packet size for each variety, cull out the duplicates and then re-sort by company. (And if I'm feeling really brave, I do a finaly tally of how much I'm spending!)
Then I'm ready to go online and order, and I take advantage of those quick-order features - I sit down with my spreadsheet taking up half the screen, the quick-order form taking up the other half. I plug in code after code until I've completed the order.
Go_Vols, a woman after my own heart! I like to use the hardcopy catalogs whenever possible, since I can dog-ear, highlight, etc. I make out lists, scratch things out, add things, then I do a mental tally per page (yes, several pages). Your method with the split screen is a wonderful idea... I have to admit, I've never learned how to split screen (blush, blush). That would certainly make life easier. Now I keep dropping docs to the toolbar and moving back and forth.
