I was just at Tom Clothier's site
http://users.anet.com/~manytimes/page11.htm
and saw that this is his last seed list. He says he is retiring. I have bought seeds from him the last two years, and found him to be an excellent source for seeds. He is always quick to respond to e-mails, and to ship his seeds (and the prices and variety are great, too!). The germination rates have been very good, even from his older seeds. I'm sure many will miss him. I hope his site is still kept up, because that has a lot of valuable information there.
Tom Clothier Retiring
I have also been to his wonderful gardening site and his amount of information is absolutely amazing!
He is generously making his seeds available for purchase for a very nominal price. I was also very pleased with the seed selection, quick delivery, and germination rates.
I believe I read that his site will be maintained by two other devoted gardeners. His legacy will continue :~)
I sure hope so. He was so helpful to me when I first started gardening. He personally answered to many of my questions and was always so helpful. I've gotten lots of seeds from him as well. He will definitely be missed!
I just emailed him with my requests for this year; I do hope someone carries on the tradition, as he is a great resource for gardeners.
just sent him my list too!
ive gotten them from him before with great success!
I got seeds a few weeks ago from him. I tell ya... if your hestitant about ordering from him ... DON"T BE!! The time and care he puts into packing and sending out seeds puts Mr. Burpee to shame. You won't be disappointed.
I imagine giving his garden up is a hard thing for him to do. Seems sorta sad. His website is the first gardening site I found when I got on the net and it's one of the best.
I too just found his site and am sad that this is his last year. I ordered seeds immediately, and as usual I messed up the order; didn't indicate which years seed lists I was ordering from. He was quick to come back and tell me that some I wanted were not in stock any longer and as I'd already sent my check he added extra's to make up. He was so very nice. I wish he wasn't leaving his gardens.
I ordered seeds also for the first time this year. He's been very helpful with my purchase - I tried to order a couple of items based on picture without realizing they weren't avaiable for that year. Price was so reasonable - I'm looking forward to the seeds! :)
momcat thanks for the note about his site - I'm delighted to be able to have found out and buy something during his final year. I'm still so new to different types of flowers that it was a chance to try new things from a zone similar to mine.
These generous and special offers from people like Tom are an inspiration - perhaps in years to come, I'll learn more and hopefully be able to share with someone new who is just starting, like I am now.
Amen, sbarr! That's my goal, too - to get enough plants started to have more to share with others, whether through a small mail-order seed service like Tom's, or in selling and/or trading plants and seeds in other ways :)
