Pecan tree leaves

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

Are these ok to use in flower beds?

Villa Rica, GA(Zone 7a)

Geee I hope so!!! I have 4 pecan trees that were loaded with leaves this year and we mulched them up and put them back in the flower bed. I done this last year too and it really didn't seem to cause a problem, but I did take most of them out when spring arrived. Seems they were a little heavy so I just added them to the compost heap. no harm done though. I think you'll be safe using them.

I use all my leaves in the flower beds..Oak, Pecan, Tallowtree, Sweetgum, Maple, etc...going on 30 years now, and things are still growing..LOL

Thanks Molly and Larkie....I thought so but just wanted to ask the experts. Larkie, the firespike you sent me when I first joined this site is growing great. I do appreciate you sharing with me!

Glad to hear the Firespike is doing well, mine was so pretty this year, right up to the first freeze we had..It was a light freeze, but it killed it back.

Very pretty Larkie! This reminds me of scarlet bee balm

Yea, kind of, but this is a shrub that gets anywhere from 5-6 feet..Semi- tropical..Gets killed to the ground here, but comes back in spring..Hummers & buterflies love it..

It is great and spreads nice too. I love it. Mine is still blooming. I think I must have something Larkie needs now that my garden is growing!

hmmm sounds like I need to be thinking of a trade with one of you!! LOL I'd love to try a cutting this spring, or does it seed off? I'm sure I'll have something to trade with come spring time.

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

Ok Molly, start thinking. Cuttings are so easy with this one.

Camilla, GA(Zone 8a)

Yep, it roots so easily, in just water..

Sounds like the pecan leaves are OK. The only leaves I refuse to allow in my garden are black walnut leaves (not sure how much juglone they have compared with the roots, but why take chances?). Pecans don't grow well up here: too cold. But they are the same family (I think?) as walnut and hickory.

O goodie!! I can't wait for swapping season lol
If it dies back to the ground, then it will be later on in the summer before we can trade right?? I bet I'll have plenty to trade with by then! YEAH!!!!

Lupine~ You're right, Pecan is a species of Hickory.

The pecan tress in my yard are in the front and some leaves are naturally in my beds but was goin to use the rest this year for other beds. I am sure they are ok as nothing has died so far.

Molly...get those trades ready girl!

Will do Weeds!

My only problem with using pecan leaves is that by late spring I have tons of pecan seedlings popping up in all the beds. Now if I "wanted" to grow pecan trees, the crazy thangs wouldn't sprout out for nothing!! LOL
