Christmas trees

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

jody, I was going to mention something about your santa but didn't. It looks very nice. Why don't you start a thread for christmas collectables in the collectables forum with your santas. I'm sure it would be a popular thread like this trees one is.
Merry Christmas

Good Idea!!

These trees and decorations are just beautiful, and this is such a cheerful thread!

Finally, MY tree! I found a potted Formanek Weeping Norway Spruce (Picea abies 'Formanek') and it's just the right size for our small space. It will grow just 3-6" a year.

Notice the angel hanging above the tree? My mother made that for me in the early 60's and the angel has such a 1950-1960's face! She gets a little more aged every year, but I'll put her up as long as I can.

Beautiful, beautiful, Darius! I love that angel -- how wonderful that you have this marvelous gift from your mother to bless you every single year.

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

A very different kind of spruce. Very pretty. Will you leave it in the pot or plant it out in the ground? Either way beats putting a plastic one back in the box.

lizh, I have been waiting to see if you put the candy canes on your tree...are you going to show it???

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Bernie, I plan to put it in the ground when I take it down soon after Christmas. I don't want to leave it in the house any longer than necessary, although I used to leave cut trees up until the Day of the Three Kings in January.

When it is in its natural glory I will photograph it and post it to the plant database. Sorry this is not such a good picture of the tree itself. I found it hiding in the corner of my favorite nursery, behind some other plants, and thought it perfect both for my Christmas tree and for my garden.

It's beautiful Darius...I love it.

hi to all
i have a victorian tree, with ivory and dusty rose and gold ornaments, like old chairs and hat boxes and old shoes and
ribons and beads i have a pic but not quite sure how to get it to you. but what i realy want to say is that my six year old just saved our house from going up in flames!!! i put her to bed hours ago and she just called down to me to tell me that our kittens knocked over the window candle light in my bed room, when i went up stairs the candle {electric}
was on the floor on a pair of my sweat pants, it had burned through the pants and started scorching my carpet. to day is my birthday and i think my daughter just gave me the greatest gift of my life

Oh, that is so scary! Thank God for your little girl! And for that to happen on your birthday, too -- you're right, she gave you the greatest gift of your life!

GW, your wee tree is very beautiful -- love the hanging behind it, too. Is it Noah's Ark?

SEYMOUR, CT(Zone 6b)

not a great picture of my tree but a good pic of my little fire bug

Thumbnail by HOLLMART

Looks like a lovely tree, and what a gorgeous little life-saving angel in front of it! She has such a sweet expression and is absolutely beautiful.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

oh Hollmart, what a beauty and what a smart girl!! so glad that she was alert and knew to get you. welcome to DG btw.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Wow, you did get a great Christmas gift, Hollmart. (((your fire bug)))

WR - yes, that's a Noah's ark throw that we hanged over a wooden curtain rod on the wall. It was the perfect size to fill the large blank space there.

Here's a queston...

Do you ever go to the Hamburg Christmas Market?

We found a metalsmith there about ten years ago, Goldschmiede Horneber, who makes the most wonderful Christmas ormaments out of silver wire, snowflakes, etc.

Over the years we have collected about 100, all different. These are special.

As the market is closed until next year, if you'd like to get a jump on the 2003 decorating season...:

If you happen to visit them, their house is wonderful to see, all hand built, lovely craftsmanship.

This is a pic of the tree of candle lights at the hotel in the DR, they did a wonderful job decorating with poinsettias covering rattan furnishings.

That's kinda cool -- what hotel?

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Iberostar Dominicana - the decorations were stunning which was a pleasant surprise to us. Mahogany is the national tree in the DR and they had a tree made from star-shaped mahogany in our hotel the Iberostar Punta Cana. It was an all-inclusive resort so you could use facilities at any of the hotels.

Those decorations are so unusual -- what a fun time you must have had.

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

Cool bike!

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

The decorations were awesome - lots of mahogany and handmade items. The tree had huge candles on it and everyone was lazing around in Santa hats. What a place.

So nice to see all the different holiday decorations! Like some I'm allergic to pine trees (nice gaudy facial rashes!) so had to switch to artificial. I miss the scent of pine but oh well, can't have everything. I like to collect unique ornaments and living here in the San Francisco Bay Area, there are lots of lovely handmade Asian collectibles to buy. Here's a picture of our tree as well as a close-up of the tree topper. I made it after seeing a similar one in a catalog for $75 and thought, 'hey, I can do that myself!' In the close-up you can see a few of my favorite ornaments--bottom center is a delicate capiz-shell sleigh pulled by two butterflies of different sizes. Right above it to one side is a Chinese silk embroidered flower with a long pink tassel. Halfway-up on the LH side, unfortunately turned the wrong way, there's a pair of Chinese slippers (you can only see the white bottoms pointed down, with a red tassel attached) that are yellow silk satin, embroidered all over in tiny stitches.

We have several dragons, too; a wooden Indonesian sea-dragon and a plush Chinese dragon in gold lame with red felt legs and tail. There's glass dragonflies, little satin penguins with formal red bowties, embroidered and painted Chinese figures of court ladies and little children, as well as lots of candy canes with ribbon bows and four strings of mini-lights.

Takes three days to put everything up and just as much time to take it down, but it sure is pretty when it's done. Lifts our spirits every night!

Jkom, I just love your tree! Those decorations are beautiful, especially the exquisite topper that you made yourself -- very creative.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

That butterfly-powered sled is neat, thanks for posting this. :)

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Very colorful and festive Jkom, lots of points of interest in the variety of decorations.

Finally got the time to scan my photos: this one shows the tree with my Florida niece sitting in front of it. Just had to show her off!

Beautiful niece, beautiful tree!

Finally had time to take a picture of this year's tree and almost all of the decorations for the year. I was a bit lazy and didn't pull out much this year! Happy New Year everyone!

Here's another view of my decorations.

Doris, that's such a cozy-looking Christmas scene. I like your tree and red and white decorations, and that quilt is beautiful, too.

Cullman, AL(Zone 7a)

Thanks Bonnie. The quilt stays there year round as a "bumper pad" for the grand kids or more honestly for my peace of mind with them bouncing around those sharp rocks!
Hope you had a good Christmas and may you and yours be healthy and happy in 2003. Doris

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

my lil tree-we always get a much larger n fatter one! This yr with a houseful of plants we downsized a bit!

Thumbnail by notmartha

Thank you, Doris, and I wish you and your family the same.

That's a pretty tree, Notmartha -- and an intriguing big box at the base, too!

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

That big box was the MTVsinging machine-Karaoke!!!
Dayme is singing none stop now-santa claus is coming to town and a whole LOT more. Its pretty fun,it has an am-fm radio casset player and a 7inblack n white tv in it!!!
everyone seems to like it!

N.C. Mts., NC(Zone 6b)

notmartha, pretty tree. Doris yours is pretty also. What is setting in front of your fireplace? I'm wondering if it is a heater?

Cullman, AL(Zone 7a)

lizh, It is a wall mounted butane gas heater. Cutting wood for the fireplace got to be too much for my husband's bad back. Not as nice as the open fire but much less trouble.
