It used to irk me to get the new catalogs before the new year. Now I can't wait for them to get here. Just got the 2003 Pinetree Seeds catalog a few days ago. I can't believe how that company has grown!! I think I'll have to make an early order. Anyone else getting catalogs yet?
Catalogs are rolling in!!
i am and dh is trying to sneak them into the trash, good thing i am toooo fast for him lol.
Wahhhh, only a few so far. I'm starting to get antsy. You'd think they'd all send one to me! Guess it's like they say, the cobbler's children have no shoes, the barber's children need a haircut. The GWD editor doesn't get enough gardening catalogs ;~(
Guess I spoke too soon. My Pinetree, Stokes and Vermont Bean Seed Co. catalogs were all in my mailbox today - woohoo!!!!!

when i went to the mailbox today that was my thought-they are starting to roll in now!!! hooray hooray hooray more catalogs each day!!
i wonder if the kids would rather have plants this year instead of toys? hmmmmmmmmmmmm.........;]
Glad your getting some Vols. I got the Seymour's catalog yesterday. I'm really getting sucked in this year. Last year I was a very good girl and didn't order much at all. Don't think I'll be able to control myself this year. I see a bazillion plants I want to try already.
Most of ours are here, first one came in July! We have already ordered and received seeds! There is a lot of new things to try; oh-oh another greenhouse ?
Bernie
LOL, I was going to put them all away until after New Years and be very good. You know what happened: hmm, just ruffle through, it can't hurt, hmmm, oh another, well now, maybe if I just look for the seeds I know I want, hmmmmmmm, ooo, those are pretty, well maybe I should look in the other one just to compare price, hmmmmmmmmmmmm, lovely, oh, oh, oh...
Needless to say, my Christmas shopping isn't half done, but I know what's in the seed catalogs! HHELLLLLLPPPPPPPPPP!!!!
Just a few so far and I'm with you Poppysue...I read garden catalogs like they are a novel except that I read them about a 100 times....I'm ready to order some stuff too!
I got 5 yesterday and 3 more today. You know what I'll be doing for the next few evenings.
paul
I've got a couple also, I try not to look at them till after Christmas. Then the first week in January I start to design what I want to plant for the coming year...then I order way more than I can possibly plant. Then there's the trips to the nursery for one thing and come home with a truck load. It's so much fun and friends wonder why come August you can only walk down a couple of paths in the garden.
I haven't gotten many yet, but most took me off their lists I think: I used to get about 50, but never ordered from them, so they got fed up with me :)
I have gotten Pinetree (didja see the plug for Garden Watchdog?!!!) and Totally Tomatoes and Bluestone Perennials and White Flower Farm is all :(
Do you all find the hard copy catalogues have more varieties offered than their online catalogues? thanks
edited to make sense........LOL

Usually they are different: different offerings in the different places. Many on-line sites have discounted plants (overstocks) or the few-of-a-kind things they wouldn't be able to supply enough to justify including in the paper catalogue that people order from for an entire year. The paper catalogues tend to have the best photos and descriptions though, as well as something available year-round to compare with others :) I like (and use) both! But more and more places are charging (a nominal fee usually refunded with an order) for their printed material.
I like having the printed copies. I lug them back and forth to work to read on my breaks. I thumb through them while watching TV. And best of all.... I take a bath with them :)
LOL Poppysue! and I have not forgotten the CG I owe you!
Poppysue, glad to see I am not the only one that does this. Nothing more soothing than bubbles, something to dring, and a pencil to make your wish list.
Chiltern's and Bluestone Perennials came today. I'm in catalog heaven :) I've already made three orders this year and it's not even January. Gosh ... I'm a sick puppy.
Oh my......I've just gotten back into gardening last summer and I have received many catalogs also. Just about all that you have all listed here! I'm not kidding.....I spent an entire Saturday morning and afternoon, going through....doing price comparisons.........then I had to get on the internet to make sure I was getting the best deal. Sigh, it really was a lot of fun!! My list was huge, and I realized I had to pare it down. I mean, a girl can only propagate so many seedlings, right? LOL! I'm out of control, and loving every second of it!! Is it spring yet?
Gardening catalogs are an addictive combination of imagination, allurement, recreation and fantasy -- I'm starting to cast covetous eyes on my neighbor's unloved and uncared-for front yard, since we're fast running out of space for all the plants I want to buy!!
Anyone have a few catalogues that are a must for me to order? I already get bulb ones and Logees but no seed ones. I want to buy some unusual holleyhock seeds and poppies this year. Thanks
I got my Select Seeds Antique Flower Seeds catalog today - highly recommend this one. It is out of New England, lots of Victorian seeds, some hard to find old favorites, a few natives - just really good stuff. They also sell plants. I've never ordered any plants from them, but I've had wonderful luck with all of the seeds I've gotten through them. Now, I have to do some serious winnowing and get down to figuring out orders. Hmmm, good job for New Year's Day, I think.
Yes the catalogs are rolling in and I have made a hundred list. lol OF course now I won't order them all but it sure is fun to go through and pick out all the things you would like to have. I did get a catalog from Farmer seed and nursery today. Never had that one before ,Watchdog sure don't have good things to say about it.But I didn't notice any names there I knew as rating it have any of ordered from them?
Oh my word! The cataloges are arriving "two by two" on a daily basis....sometimes even more than that! I have received all the ones already mentioned above, plus in the mail today was Baker's Heirloom Seed Cataloge. My "want" list has already exceeded my budget for next year!
This thread looks like where you find the true plantaholics.LOL Burpee came today here and no orders placed yet but lots of good reading here. Poppysue, the bathtub is indeed a great place for this pasttime.
We get our catalogues much earlier, I always count Chilterns as the last catalogue of the year, the others tend to come during October/November. Thats not including the Daffodil catalogues (April) and those that have 2 catalogues a year.
Kell - there are lots of great seeds catalogs. If you go to the Watchdog there will be links to all the webs sites to sign up for their catalogs. Good ones with free catalogs are
Pinetree Garden seeds
Johnny's seeds
Thompson & Morgan
Park's Seed
Select Seeds Antique Flower Seeds
Seymour's Seeds
Seeds of Change
I'm sure there are other good ones on this thread.
I've got only one. All Finnish catalogs come much later in January or February.

Kell, if you are looking for the old fashioned single hollyhocks, the
select seeds of antique seeds is a great source, they have a website too.
Not one catalog yet!
