I was talking to brugcrazy this morning about sprayers. We both have the 2 gallon Hudson(?)pump sprayers that have to be pumped with one hand and sprayed with the other. We need a shoulder sling - like a water bottle carrier, to move around the garden. Not a backpack because it has to be pumped. Is there a product out there or is this something we have to fashion on our own? We were talking strapping and velcro. What does everyone else use?
A sprayer sling?
Liz......shame on you!.......just what are you spraying for??????? E.
How about picking up a wide guitar strap (either a cheap one at the music store or at a flea market). They are adjustable in length, sturdy and you can easily fit clips on each end to attach to your sprayer. This way you could wear it over your shoulder and have the bottom of the sprayer a few inches off the ground when your are walking/standing up straight. When you need to pump it back up, just slightly bend over so the sprayer is on the ground, then pump. (THat would keep you from always having to take it off, pump, put it back on your shoulder.)
My bottle doesn't have anything to attach clips to though. But I like the guitar strap idea - now I'd need to attach the strap to some sort of mesh-type base that I could slip the bottle into it..
Elaine - you have a thousand roses - don't you ever foliar feed? LOL
I spray my roses with dormant oil in late fall and early spring :) But I can't use one of these big sprayers, I use a quart spray bottle with a mister attached. Just have to refill it very often.
I would think you could find some wide sturdy strapping (the kind used in back packs) at a sewingcrafts store. I think you would be able to attach it with self adhesive heavy duty velcro. Tell the person at the store what you're trying to make and I'm sure they can help you figure out something.
Thanks - brugcrazy mentioned the velcro. I have all winter to experiment. I will need a project like this.
oh boy, Liz.....I thought you were chemically spraying..we want to to stay around for quite a while yet!!!
Both Orchard Supply and Home Depot carry large (3 gall and 5 gall) plastic backpack-type sprayers. Heavy and a little awkward to put on (either someone helps you as you strap it on or you brace it on top of a garbage can while you slip your arms into the straps and belt it) but my husband swears by it as being much less fatiguing to use for dormant oils, etc. There's a pump-handle for your left and the sprayer hose for the right-hand, so if you're left-handed you need to check if they can be switched.
They're not cheap (the 3 gall was about $100) but he says it's cut the time down by more than half, and considers it worth it.
