'Shoe, you TURKEY! LOL! Happy Thanksgiving to you, too. :)! What're you doing today? Kenny and I decided to stay home, just the two of us. He got a brown sugar spiral ham and a free turkey with it at the grocery yesterady (that smart little shopper ;), so we went ahead and fired up the pit to cook both. We always eat late, so it'll be done in time ~ turkey supper instead of turkey dinner. That's always nicer than getting up at 4am to have the turkey done by noon! Egads!

We had a nice leisurely walk down by the creek today. Beautiful weather for it ~ freeze last night, but it's 60 degrees right now! :) Fed the bottle calf and she's doing great! Visited Belle (our Jersey milk cow) and the sheep and goats. Picked up some pecans for Christmas pies. NICE day so far!

Oooooh! Miracle on 34th Street is coming on! The original one! YEAH! We just finished watching the AKC dog show ~ CUTE dogs!!

Did you get enough turkey? If not, here's a perfect one for you (Don't know if you saw this before ~ NeSandy already posted it here, but it sure applies! LOL!).

HAH!...Happy Day!
Regarding the pics...Eyes just sent me the "tan lines" in an email! What a chick, eh?~!

Sounds like ya'll are having a good Thanksgiving Day! And a smart one too! Great idea to fire up the pit! As for me, my wimmin-folk are in Minnesota with her side of the fambly so I am batching it. Fine w/me tho...it is colder than a cast iron commode up there! Highs in the 20's!
(That was our low here this morning.)

So far I've played...washed dishes from last nites chicken I cooked, chased someone outta the woods who was riding an ATV/trespassing, and now have a 7 pound boston butt roast in the oven. Gonna let it cook slowly for hours, then "fork it" into some good ol' Carolina BBQ! No one here but me to eat it so last year I packaged it up and delivered it to friends houses. (Course now, I'm actually thinking I really oughtta freeze some of it for me!)

Miracle On 34th Street is one of my favorites! Yes, the original one. I always wondered if anyone ever solved the "mysterious death by drowning" of Natalie Woods (who played the little girl in that movie).
As for me, I recorded the Paul McCartney special last nite so I may watch it tonite (unless I get back on the puter!).

Ya'll have a happy!~ And behave!

Oh, man ~ Paul was awesome last night! It was a cool show ~ showed not just him on stage, but some backstage and family/friend/personal life info, too. And don't forget to watch the crowd scenes ~ you may recognize a few people, like Jack Nicholson.

I thought I'd read somewhere that you're bachin' it today! So I thought those chicks were especially appropriate. ;)

Yep, great day so far. Kenny's cracking pecans while we watch the movie. Kris Kringle just bopped that nasty store psychiatrist on the forehead. Hee-hee ~ I loved that part.

Yes, that was rather sad and mysterious, Natalie Woods's death. I've wondered about that, too. It gives a sort of surrealism to watching Miracle now, a little more sad interest kind of.

About tresspassers ~ Ugh! If they'd just ask... Here's something I wrote on another homesteading forum to try to help a lady who was having the same problem with a couple neighbor boys. It may be helpful for you in dealing with them, too. ;)

Young men are exceedingly superstitious when it comes to older women. Make them think you're psycho, or have the local kids start a rumour that you're a Sorceress who can give them Mongolian Crotch Rot. Really!! I know from personal experience that a little eccentricity goes a loooooooong way in getting a little respect ~ haven't had a stray dog or kid on our place in years. ;) Sometimes the adults need to be initiated if they're new, but word gets around pretty quick once I come out of the bushes smiling, hand outstretched, saying, "Hi! How're you doing? I'm Linda Wall and I own the place." Then hooking my thumbs in the front of my britches on either side of the pistol stuck in there. Taking a shot in the middle of the conversation, real quick over to the left, then saying, "Allright! Squirrel for dinner!" helps, too. ;)

Yah-hah-hah-HA! Tresspassers can be such fun!

Oooooh! Fred Mertz just showed up on the movie!

Hey you two - room for me in here?
Stan and I were alone together today. He had a nice long nap this morning while I watched Tess Of the D'Urbervilles on A&E and then we had a lovely dinner of roast beef, potatoes, fruit salad and milk. After dinner, we did the traditional heifer chase. There was one behind the barn by her lonesome and she decided to wander around the yard a bit. We put her over in with the rest of the outside girls. the snow in the side yard is over a foot high. I know this because I was wearing my 12 inch insulated boots!

We did go over to DD's for a few minutes this morning so I could help her load her printer program into her new computer. The roads are definitely snow covered and slippery. I've heard a few gun shots just a bit a go. I think any hunter out in this should be relieved of any responcible positions he might hold!

Happy rest of the day.

Linda, pecans! you lucky dog.

Happy Thanksgiving. Shoe you nut you can always make us smile. I am just here for a second then off to my moms. Been to MIL's already and now time to eat again.(oh my tummy) lol Wing we watched the dog show too. Can't believe the poodle won. Miracle On 34th Street is my all time favorite. This time of year there are so many good movies and classics on. Well time to go. Have a great day!

Well, Kris delivered the house complete with his cane in the corner so they'd know it was him. ;) It's a toss-up for my fave part of the entire movie between that part and when they bring all the letters to Santa into the courtroom! *Very big childish grin!*

Oh, Mystic, I know! That pinscher was gorgeous! And so was the sheep dog. And wasn't that pomeranian TEWWWWW CA-YUTE?! LOL!

Yes, Kathleen! Pecans! We have literally hundreds of native trees that line both creeks and a few grafted trees near the house that make big, fat ones ~ Mahans and Burketts. But I do like the native ones better ~ smaller and harder to pick once they're cracked, but it's SO worth it! One time I spent three hours cracking and picking them to make baked pecans with the Worcestershire sauce and butter, got about three cups. And ... *drumroll please* ... burned them! AGHHHHH!!! LOL! But pies made with them ... Mmmmmm-MMM!

Kenny just came back in from feeding the bottle calf again. I forgot to tell you the funny thing that happened this morning! Butterbean's walking so good today that we went on a "tour" ~ Les is having a bad day with his arthritis, so I walked her all the way over to Mom and Les's house so he could see her. They told me to bring her right on in the house so he could pet her! ROTF! Hereford heifer in the house! I LOVE this country life!

Well, the ham's completely baked, I'm half baked (see pic ~ wed rine is a necessary T-Day cooking tool) and it's almost ready for dinner time! Time to unstuff the turkey and stuff ourselves. ;)

Welp...I got to watch some of the Paul show...then DW and DD called from the frozen northcountry. They pigged out and had a blast today! MY pig roast is still in the oven on super low, so I fried me up some catfish for supper, and had it with a big salad (complete with feta cheese on top)!

And now I read Po po mystic HAS to go eat again!? Sheesh! I couldn't do it! (But maybe she just gets desserts at the second stop, eh?)

Wingnut..hah!..loved the "superstitious writeup". I was once known as the 'rootman' when I lived in the city and eventually the rowdy neighbors left me alone. (I think it might've been cuz someone started a rumor about me, could've be me that started it!, but I think it was enforced when the Block Bully found the feet of a dead sparrow tied to the head of a rabbit on his doorknob. After that, for some reason, people gave me wide berth.)

Kathleen...sounds like a nice day to me! And as for those pecans, my new helper just brought us a bag of em! And they were shelled! Nice big ones too! My DW commented on how nice they were. Have no idea what kind they are, but they sure are delish!)

By the way, Wingy, when I grow up, I just GOT to get me one of them "wed rine" glasses! Never saw one with a handle on it before! (It must act as a compass, telling you which way to direct it to our mouths, right??)

Shoe, your women folk are probably warmer than you, Still 44 degrees here at 10 PM. Check my post in Farm Life.

Great picture, Shoe :) Just checking in here at Dave's while celebrating Thanksgiving with in-laws. Cold, cold and more cold is all I have to say about the weather! Thankful for a wonderful meal and family to share it with :)

Spicewood, TX(Zone 8b)

Shoe, it's actually a Bailey's Irish Cream coffee glass that my mama gave me. I don't know where to get one now, but maybe you can ask your local bartender? That's where Mom got this one. I like the little handle on the side, too ~ it is helpful. ;)

Hope everyone's warm this morning! :)

What a cool picture Shoe! We had a GREAT day yesterday. Had turkey and all the stuff that goes with it about 4:00 with dd and sil. Talked with the other two dd's that live in OH and PA. After all that food, dh and dsil watched guy type movies while dd and I played monopoly and Skip-bo. Ate way too much. Didn't even think about dessert until around 8:00. Hey I did that pork thing earlier in the week too. MMMM....melts in your mouth, huh? Hope you have a good rest of your week and the ladies in your life get home soon!

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

Hey shoe, great photo! We thought of you all day yesterday, wishing you were here to celebrate with us. Nice hat!

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Wow...so it sounds like we all did good...another Thanksgiving!
Bernie, hope you are enjoying your "heat wave" up there! I figgered ya'll would be knee-deep in snow by now!
Morph, I just noticed your city...I think I have relatives in your town, or if not, "ancestors" in one of your graveyards. I'll check into it. (Some of my family hails from Akron, Kent, Bellsville. I'll let you know.)
Vic and Hank, ya'll did good! Ate and played...a good combination, eh? (Listen to any stories?)
Now as for you, Missy Lisa!....'Bout merry ol' time you felt good enuff to post again. Glad you are feeling better and hope your DD is also! Since you're doing so good, seems to me like you can get your whip out and have Kim and Howie scrubs the barnacles off the boat, clean out the goat house, and cook some of Howie's Special Steaks for supper! Yee-haww...Ca-racckkkkk...(only way I know how to write the sound of a whip in use!)

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

Aw Shoe, missed this!! Don't know about turkey, but the 'ham' sure took a bow!! lol!! Ya'll had a lovely day by the sound of it but turkey is a no go in this house until Christmas. So I cooked a pork roast, scored the skin and studded it with rosemary and thyme and stuck garlic into the meat. The pork crackling was amazing!! Usual crispy roast potatoes of course and veggies, not forgetting the apple sauce and gravy and a bottle of good Italian wine. I have to say the pork in this country is wonderful and I ate so much that there wasn't room for the dessert. Come to think of it, I enjoyed it so much I can't wait to cook another one. :-)

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

oh shoe!!! sorry you had to batch it, but sounds like you did just fine. I would love to watch Paul if you can spare that tape for a few days!!!
we ate at MIL's, food was .. well, let's just mention that you couldn't tell the turkey from the ham.
having a small dinner here tomorrow with DD and family. and have vowed to never leave home on a holiday again!

Weatherford, TX(Zone 7b)

Hey Shoe Great shot. Did you take it yourself? Hope you and all(critters) had a great day. DH and I did get to stay home with all our critters and I do think it will become a tradition for us,it was so realaxing and fun.Had prime rib & crab legs .NO BIRD That we always have at Christmas. MIL and the rest of the inlaws are PO at me and I dont really care! After 16yrs with them I feel like I can do as I like! DD was working and was on an overnight in Washington. She was so concerned about not being home for Thanksgiving she had called and wanted me to fly out and I had to be at work the next AM.(Here go feelingilty again. She called back and said a flight attendant invited her to her inlaws that happen to live on a lake in the Wash area and she had her homemade pumkin pie after all. Was telling me how it was a beautiful area.As for Paul, thats funny too. My mom called from the home and told me she wanted to watch the Beatles and she wasnt quite sure how to work her new remote. I called the desk and they went and stayed and watched it with her.Saved me an hour drive and she had a great Time!Guess she was the only 80yr on the floor that was interested in the Beatles! Yeh God Is Good

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

HAH! That is great! Sounds like everything turned out great! But get this...prime rib and crablegs!! If everybody in this thread hadda known that we would have all descended on your place!
Sounds to me like ya'll did good. Also sounds like your Mom had a good time w/her TV!
All is well, eh?

(Zone 5a)

Hey UNCLE SAM....I mean Shoe *giggle* Nice picture and what a nice one to celibrate Thanksgiving. Please set another place at the table for me, sure want to taste some of that pig. I haven't been to a pig roast since 1982 and I am sure that you will have enough for this pig to get a little hee, hee.
I had rib roast, fresh mashed taters and southern gravy, brussel spouts with cream cheese sauce and Maypop passion flower fluff and cabbage ala Kit. I did eat too much and I swear I'll never do that again, lordy I thought my stomach would never go back down.

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Wow, a feast for sure, Windy! Goonness gracious me!
You grew them Brussel sprouts, didn't ya!
Just wondering what a maypop fluff is. I've eaten maypops, never made a fluff tho.

(Zone 5a)

First the cabbage ala kit is just swiss chard, scallions and brussel sprouts and their leaves mixed in, also sausage.

The Maypop fluff is Maypop Passion flower fruit whipped up in food processor and stain the juice to get most of the seeds out, return to processor and blend in heavy cream while adding sugar to taste...wala maypop fluff.

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

I got a picture of Horseshoe sent to me on a get well card. It is a very funny picture (like the one above) don't you think?
