I bought some calla lily bulbs and now wonder if I would be safe planting them in the ground. Our winters can get quite cold here, down to -20, but that is rare. Last year we only had 0 about twice. However, the ground freezes and stays frozen for months. Should I play it safe and put my callas in a pot and start them slowly over the winter inside? Thanks.
Calla in zone 5, how to plant now?
I do not think that callas are hardy in zone 5, you might want to check on storage, like for begonias or cannas. It might be on the bulb forum.
there you go.........Mary E. right on the nose! Ive potted them in clay pots(around 1 gallon size), and then let them go on in the cooler part of my glasshouse..in the warmer weather, empy the container, soil and all, and away you go! Elaine
Thanks, into the pots they go.
