Dave, are laptop screens LDC?

philomel, no, mine is a CRT, not LCD.

Evert: Yes, laptop screens are almost always LCD.

My goodness, now I really feel like dinosaur! My screen is an old Magnovox 17" we got with our old hard drive back in 1998. Dennis wants to hold out for a flat screen, so we've been plugging along with us. I do lots of work with graphics, so the slide bar is an old companion for me! I really don't mind using the slide bar whe the photo is just a bit bigger than my screen. It is, however pretty distressing when the image is so huge that a bee on a bloom fills my screen!

When I download my photos, I edit the original thumbnails, but "Save As" so that the originals can be re-edited at a later date. I store those originals on a CDRW and store the photos on the hard drive for easy access. I've been trying to save all my photos lately to the size that will fit nicely here... which seems to be about all I use them for!

Perhaps many folks just set their camera to a certain file size, and they don't have the tools or the experience to change the file size or resolution... or to alter the exposure after downloading from the camera. If the person who posts the pic agrees to it, I'd be happy to resize, etc. and offer it for reposting... is that a possibility?

That's a very kind offer from you, WZ, and there may be some who will take you up on it! Let me know if/when/how I can help out, especially with deleting the "biggie-size" images as their replacements come rolling back in.

Long-term, I think Dave's option is most viable, as it will create an automatic resizing, regardless of the image's size when loaded - no fuss, no muss.

Right, but let's not delete any biggy-size pictures, because my solution will then give the option to view the big pictures in smaller sizes, while preserving the larger sizes, which sometimes you'd want (especially if you have a big monitor).

So if they are already big, let's leave them alone with the knowledge that I'll be making a good solution sometime soon (depending on your definition of soon) :)

Would have thought that's more depending on YOUR definition of soon Dave LOL (only being wicked ;)

Sounds a great idea :)

Dave, when pictures will be resized to 640 wide, which will be great, won't those which are less than that (mine are 504) come out fuzzy due to lost pixels? The dpi will always be 72, right? Just wondering.
LCD = Liquid Crystal Display.

Good question, Ulrich. I've posted smaller ones, myself.

No, I'll never size a picture up, only down. If the picture is less than 640, it won't be touched.
