Love Lies Bleeding

Clinton, TN

Anybody love this plant as much as I do? Do you save the seed (mine tend to mold) or just let to resow willie nillie? (which can become a chaotic mess) I've also heard it called Kiss Me Over the Garden Gate. Please somebody tell me if these are the same plant.

Tootface (what a cute name!), they are sometimes referred to as one and the same, but they're not. Here are the latin names of each:

Love Lies Bleeding - Amaranthus caudatus Link to photo: http://www.anet.com/~manytimes/album/lovelie2.htm

Kiss Me Over the Garden Gate - Polygonum orientale Can't find a photo online (does anyone have one)?

go vols, I have a picture of the kiss me over the garden gate...but still haven't attempted posting pics here...It has had its botanical classification changed..you might find it under persicaria orientalis..

Okay, technical problems here. My update wouldn't "take", and the link didn't work in the edited version. But here's a picture of Kiss Me Over the Garden Gate: http://www.carlnet.org/~ttsdaly/polygonum.html

Thanks for the pictures. Yes, they are very different aren't they. Anyone with a word about the seed saving problem?

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Hi Tootface,

I love this plant also and saved all my seeds from this past year for trading.

This is how I saved mine: After they seem to be finished and start dying back, I cut off the blooms and put them into a large paper bag. I left them to dry out on their own and then just shook the blooms and rubbed them in my hand into the same bag and kept them there all winter. I had no problem with any mold.

Hope this helps, Donna

Duh, I was putting mine in plastic. No wonder they molded. Musta, been a brain cramp. Thanks Donna.
