I just received some of these in trade and wondered if they might do well in zone 5. If so, I'll send them off to my mother and father. If not, I'll plant them here.
Everything I've read says they're good up to zone 7, but I wondered if anyone further up north had any experience growing them.
Thanks.

Rain lilies
I had heard they were hardy only to zone 8, but they have survived two zone 7 winters for me here. I really doubt they'd survive zone 6 or less, though. I say plant 'em at your house. :)
dave, are they planted up near your house, in a protected area? or out in the open, and heavily mulched?
(I have some that Lisa sent me last yr and kept them in the ghouse...wasn't sure about outdoor winter-time conditions.)
Shoe: Winter 2000/2001 they were in the ground in a few open area (no trees or structures within 100 feet).
Winter 2001/2002 (this past winter) they were actually in containers sitting outside next to the greenhouse. They survived winter in a container (and no cold frame), too, but we had a very mild winter this past year.

Okay, Great! Thanks dave!
Yessir! :)
Thanks folks. I'll plant them here.
