What plants have you 'just' discovered?

Weymouth, Dorset, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

You know how it is, there are certain plants that you don't exactly ignore, or dislike, but you've never taken much notice of them before.Well, this year I had some seeds of an annual rudbekia in one of my exchanges, so I grew them on, and put a couple in my garden down the bottom. I have been so impressed with them! they've flowered their socks off all summer, and are only just finishing now, and that's only because the sun no longer reaches them, and it's been a bit wet and manky.Next year I plan to grow loads together ,with verbena bonariensis coming up through them, should make a lovely show through into autumn. So a big thanks you to who ever put them in my envelope,'cos from now on I'll not be without them.

Sue, easy: scarlet salvia. The real one, not the bedding kind. I got the seeds this spring, planted them out, and wow! incredibly beauties. I had heard so many people rave about all the newly available salvias, but until I got this one (and Mexican Bush Sage too) for myself, didn't know what all the fuss was about. I sure do now. Now I just have to remind myself to save seeds from it this fall and pass the magic along to someone else next year!

I haven't discovered Helleborus. I hear all the great assets they have but never had the interest. Maybe it's the winter bloom thing that is throwing me off.

Golddog, maybe you just need to see one blooming.

Thanks, it didn't take too much convincing. I will do it.

My discovery was pulmoneria last spring. I thought of them as very mundane, but went to a show where there were so many different species and cultivars, contrasting so well with each other. The diversity of flowers and leaves was amazing. And they flower over a very long period too.

Phil, I became a convert to pulmonarias a few years ago. I have been developing my own hybrids the past couple of years :D But I envy the access you have to some of the best ones! We can only read about them over here and dream...
