My daughter just brought her allamanda over to spend wthe winter here at my house. It got into the 40s last night and the plant is not happy. Its beginning to lose leaves already. Do I treat it as a houseplant or should I let it go dormant? Or just do whatever I can to keep it alive this winter? Doris
Allamanda
Since it's already been chilled which started it into dormancy, just keep it cool and slightly damp and dormant. Treat it like any other dormant tropical plant, don't overwater, but don't allow to become bone dry. It will start new growth in late winter/early spring. I usually wait till them to cut it back.
Cala... does that mean they can be 'stored' in a darkish basement during dormancy? Same for mandevillas and brugs?
