We have discussed who we would enjoy meeting, how about a famous gardener we have met?

I don't mean to sound repetitious, but I have met Holly Shimizu and Pamela Harper several times. Both are excellent speakers.

Whom have YOU met?

I met Mike McGrath the former editor of Organic Gardening. It was in a town not far from here. The organization that paid for him to speak didn't advertise well and there were only 12 people there. He talked for 1 1/2 hours, then 1 1/2 hours more. I feel sure we received his full program. Wonderful indeed!

I had the chance to talk to him at the break. We talked mostly of his and Jeff Cox's "Organic Gardening" television show that was on PBS at that time.

I am so jealous! McGrath was my favorite editor of OG. After he left I pretty much quit reading it, because I realized I liked it so much due to his weird sense of humor. A lot like 'Shoe's ;) And mine ;D

I met (at a seminar) Fergus (Stephens? I am bad with names), from the Passalong Plant book fame. Such an incredibly good (and funny) gardener. All right, all you southerners who are going to beat me for forgetting his name: he is a MS Master Gardener, OK? I do remember that.

Also Traci Desabato, perennial garden designer and author.

Gosh! I remember watching Organic Gardening every week. I would tape the shows in order not to miss any of them and the Victory Garden as well.

McGrath was for sure the funny one! ("Gomer" the compost pile...)

I have only met one famous gardener, he was a tree specialist and now he teaches in San Francisco, and is an arborist as well, Ted Kipping.
I was taking a class at the local college on native plants and wildflowers and he was a guest speaker and went on a hike with us, noting all the native plants along the way. I was sorry that I had to drop that class, as I had too much going on at the time.
