corn types?

A friend of mine has been wondering which type of corn she should plant to get the best results when she bottles.
In the past she has planted sweet varieties that always end up carmelized in the bottles and now she is wondering if she needs to plant a not-so-sweet variety.
So, what would all of you experts recommend?
