It was horrible! There was an uprising in my gumbo pot this a.m. when I woke up. I thought maybe you needed to see this.
*viva la pha-bon pah-tat gumbo!!!
pssst Howie
lisa - you are a hoot....
ROFL - Too funny!
IT'S WAR!! Howie...Man your battle stations!! [profanity removed] the torpedoes and full steam ahead. Don't fire until we see the whites of her eyes!! Fire a salvo of dry rice over their heads first! By golly she doesn't OWN gumbo...and if we want taters in ,we'll have taters in it! THE GALL! LOL Jo
ROFLMBO!!!!!!!!!!!! "eyes" a duckin' on this one!!!
"eyes"
*snicker*
ROTF!
Howie, I kin see the whites of their eyes (and my, how many eyes there are!) --- FIRE! Ha! Into the pot you go, boys!!
Careful GW...we may be at war, but we don't want to hurt any "tater Tots" LOL Jo
Get the knives out well slice em and dice em. They won't even see us coming. But watch it they have lots of eyes and if you don't get all they can multiply.
*snicker* snicker* Even the taters dont wanna jump in the gumbo pot..*snicker*snicker*
ROFLOL!!! Howie, You're in big trouble.
We're gathering reinforcements!
OK! Even if I did not agree with the idea of "no taters in the gumbo", I would still defend to death the right of Howie to add them!!! Jo
Ok, we do have it on record that Lisa approved of Howie's roux: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/185068/

well, he didn't put the taters in the roux,,,of course I approved..*BUT* if I would have known taters were going in the pot..I dunno..might have a second thought...
You will be a little mad at me Jo. Even though I put a couple of taters in the gumbo I still serve it over rice. Bring on the starch. I myself have not put the tomatoes in as my recipe said that is optional. But I might just because I know it would get under Lisa's skin. I'm going to freeze dry a bowl and send it to Lisa.
Lisa I will try mine without taters if you try yours with. We don't have to have a war. I'm a eater not a fighter

That is the funniest photo I've seen in ages!!!! I roared when I saw it.
Great stuff Lisa, I had to bring the family down to see that one....... *still laughing*
That has got to be pic of the day.
I can't imagine I'd even like Gumbo, but I've got to give Lisa my vote, just for this thread. Sorry tater kids!!
Wintermoor
Thanks, Lisa for the best belly laugh today! I'd be hard pressed to come up with all the "props" for this shot, having no kids at home anymore. Those spuds should be "skinned alive" for causing all this ruckus!
I've decided that I no longer wish to eat gumbo....rice, slimy okra, no taters!!! I think I'll just have Potato soup...with lots of shrimp in it...heavy on the onions and parsley and butter. Thank you very much! Jo
LOL Jo- I Can handle that..grin!
Wintermoor & Weez, glad ya'll had a good laugh! :-)
(thanks howie for being a good sport)(((())))
HOWIE! I found the name of what you made!! I have been on a mission to find out how in the world potatoes landed in your gumbo..low and behold this is what you made: Fricot!!! Fricot is a thick soup that may have in some way influenced gumbo, the premier soup of Cajun Country. The dish is made with beef or chicken and thickened with potatoes as opposed to the dark brown roux of Bayou Country. The Cajuns of Nova Scotia brought Fricot to Louisiana, however, somewhere along the way it was put aside in favor of Corn & Shrimp Soup and Seafood Gumbo.
So there you go! Go forth and make "Fricot" to your hearts content..now if I just calm the masses in my black iron pot...LOL! What a neat lesson I learned, thank you!
Whew - for a minute there, I was worried about another Civil War .....
Wow - Fricot, huh? So Fricot was the original gumbo? Aiyeeeeeeeeeee!
One thing we can all agree on; this http://www.gardenwife.com/wp-content/uploads/campbells-chicken-gumbo.jpg is not gumbo!

I knew that! LOL Jo
Oh no! I thought it was and was going to put it in a pot for a potluck dinner! NOT!
Actually the way potatoes got in my gumbo was a snipit of a recipe from cooking light magazine. I combined 3 or 4 recipes to make my own. But nice try Lisa you keep telling yourself that.
Ooooh, Howie, you're so BAD!
That's okay Kim, remember he will be spending a week here at my mercy...hah hah...and I am trying to arrange a night in the swamps. You know, hungry gators..big skeeters, huge snakes...etc..then we are gonna see what Mr. Gumbo is made out of...snicker

Great Pic! Loved it! (almost love it much better than the original pic of lisa's "mercy"!)
So Fricot is the precursor to Real Gumbo, eh? Cool.
Best Howie fixes that recipe next, just to get to use them taters. I can just hear him singin'...
♫ I left my heart ♫
♫♫ in San Fricot♫
And if he went to Hawaii, they would give him a Frico lei.
Frico lei--hmmm isn't that a brand of POTATO CHIPS?????!!!!HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
........"eyes" peering up ever so cautiously....have they put down the forks yet.......or is the food fight still flying??
"eyes"
Lisa, I eat big gators for breakest with a side of snake bacon. Your weak attempt to scare me won't work. The taters are coming.
OHHHH. Isn't He Wonderfu;??? Lol Jo
Howie, I think you should put some corn in the gumbo, too.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! *thump* and justmeLisa was never heard from again...;-)
ROTFL.....Jo
Lisa? Lisa???? LISA??????????????????? Now see what ya gone an done by messin' with her gumbo?? If someone threw taters in my Chili..........I'd throw 'em back at 'em too!!
"eyes"
