It's become fun to go on an evening sniff about to see and smell the things that bloom at night and that smell so good at night. I think I need more things like this .Of course now my neighbors really think I have gone off the deep in,out in the garden at night with a flashlight to see whats new to smell or see. lol I have moon flowers, evening fragrance datura, brugs and nicotiana oh and corkscrew vine smells even better at night. What else is there that blooms at night and smells good?

I have a night blooming jasmine that a friend at work brought back from her Grandmothers in Texas. She brought three cuttings and I rooted them for her. I gave her one that was ready to open Thursday and she said she woke in the middle of the night and went to see if it was bloooming and it was. She said it really smeeled good. I guess that was good timing. I am going to keep one and if it survives Georgia with no rain I'll get you a cutting and root you one.

Mystic: Sweet Autumn Clematis is blooming now and smells heavenly in the evening. Also, stocks smell heavenly at night.

A friend of mine at work just gave me some cuttings from the night-blooming Cereus. Please check the database. I great picture was entered recently.

Anything that is white or very light in color will be beautiful in a nighttime garden, which is of course, enhanced by the moonlight.

Fragrance is another added bonus. My Datura (white) closes its flower during the day and opens it at night. The fragrance is heady.

Jim - I have the night blooming Jasmine too - it's not hardy for me - so you need to take it in for the winter. My Ceres has no smell!

Some of the old fashioned petunias have nice fragrance - especially at night. The fragrance has been bred out of most of the newer hybrids.

The tall white nicotiana have a heavenly jasmine smell. They grow to great height, and the white flowers would be visible in the evening when the scent really comes out, as well.

My mother used to grow what she called "Moon Flowers". They opened in the evening, as I recall. They were a morning glory type plant with huge white blooms.

Milo, IA(Zone 5a)

Notmartha: The regular stocks that I grew, only grew about 10-12 inches tall. The blooms are very pretty in pastel shades. I think they were a dwarf variety. The blooms kinda reminded me of hyacinths. The scents are both very nice and about alike. The night scented might be a little more strong.

Weezy: The tall nicotiana is called Nicotaina 'Alata' also known as Jasmine Tobacco. The Moon Flowers your mother grew, were problably Daturas.

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Debby: The dwarf variety of stocks is probably Matthiola incana (10 week dwarf stocks). I understand they aren't as fragrant as the night stocks, but I've grown them in the greenhouse and they smell quite nice.

Nicotiana alata

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8a)

oh golly, gals..........don't forget old roses!!!!!!! yum! Elaine

Milo, IA(Zone 5a)

Weezy: Yes, that is what the dwarf stocks are named. They are not as strong as the night stock, but strong enough to emit their aroma through the air.

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

They are also well adapted to pots, so that you can place them at "sniff level". They come in some lovely colors, too, don't they?

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Wow ya'll have convinced me on the stocks I will have to try them next year for sure. Poppysue I would never have thought of petunias.1601 the old roses sure do smell good.Marcia I had forgot about Hesperis it grows wild here.
Thanks everybody for all the great ideas.
