Trumpet Vine Cuttings?

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

I thought I posted this but I can't find it so apparently not. I had a friend to pass away that meant a lot to me. His family said I could get cuttings of his trumpet vine. I know it can be invasive, but I still want some. Can anyone tell me how to root the cuttings?

Woodspirit, It has been my experience that there should be lots of volunteer sprouts around the original vine( some of them several feet away!)and I think your best bet is to locate a healthy looking one and dig around it to get a good sized root ball. I dig these up and pot them for our Master Gardener plant sale every year and they are pretty tough- just keep them damp and plant where you don't mind if they ramble. They may take several years to flower- just the nature of this plant. Also need STRONG support- mine is 4x4 posts with 2x4 cross pieces- they get very heavy after a few years. You can transplant them now.

We have several where I work and yes indeed there are many sprouts coming up... some as far away as 20 feet from the vine.
Thats what I would do dig up one of the volunteers.

The biggest way trumpet vine is propogated is root cuttings, so it probably roots that are actually coming through again, like the locust trees, don't you think?

Yes I got mine from a volunteer from my mother-in-law. She was planting her garden and the thing spread too far into the lettuce. She stuck this awful looking root she had been digging arund in a bucket for a week and then remembered to tell me to come and get it. HA! It really looks nice now. Tough things.

Thanks everyone. I had accidently posted this question on another thread about crape myrtles (go figure)? That's why I couldn't find it. I get the impression that I could any one of several ways to propagate trumpet vine and it would thrive. I'll let you know next year if my trumpet vine is eating me alive like some attractive, lying kudzu.
