rabbit control

Brooklet, GA(Zone 8a)

I know this sounds crazy but I was told this so I tried it and it worked. Last year the rabbits were eating my garden peas and peanuts as fast as they came up. A friend told me to distribute pine sol rags thru out the area and the rabbits would leave. I thought this a little weird but tried it. And it worked!!!!!! All I did was pour some pine sol in a bucket and soak several old pieces of a towel in it and then lay them in the garden. I resoaked about every 2 weels and the rabbits left everything alone. This may or may not work for you but I am a believer.

That's cool to know. Is there a danger of the PineSol getting into the water supply and/or plants, though?

Hi! I was told by someone that if I wanted to keep my bunny out of my garden to sprinkle blood meal around. It worked great... she didn't go near the garden... however my 2 year old Black Lab LOVED the blood meal and I couldn't keep her out of the garden... As Gilda Radner used to say, "It's always something..."

Hmmmm. Time to drag out the blood meal, it would seem. The rabbits are biting through my plastic fencing (up long enough to get everything to a size that isn't quite so tender and tasty for them!)

The rabbits ate all my asiatic lilies and now they have been chomping on my Japanese Morning glories and I think I now have an armidillo digging in the daylily beds. Makes me want to move to the city, not a big city though, and it must have trees and no close neighbors, and not a lot of traffic, oh well, I guess I will just deal with the varmits, no city girl here--lol

'Shoe had told me last year about bloodmeal after rabbits ate my green beans.
DH has put it out twice this year and so far no damage! It works apparently.

Rochester, NY

ok, using bloodmeal is a new one for me. I previously lived in NC and had no significant problems with bunnies, but have moved to upstate NY and now have quite a problem. How much bloodmeal, and where to place it? Also, a neighbor had told me the bunnies ate her Impatients last year.. can that be true? I guess what I'm asking is what all will bunnies eat? Is anything safe?!

Tucson, AZ(Zone 9a)

They don't seem to eat rocks.

Well.. that's a hopeful sign. At least the rocks can be safe! :)

We have at least one bunny running around here. My DH is doing his best to make a pet of it. I have warned him that if I find damage to my plants I am going to seriously consider making rabbit stew! He laughed at me. Thank goodness the great majority of my plants are in containers, some of them pretty big, and there are plenty of wild plants for dear bunny to munch on. Oh, yes, and rabbit pellets courtesy of DH. I sure hope bunny is a he. And that (s)he doesn't have friends to bring home. Dotti

thanks for bumping this up *sigh* I really do miss Janet (Jcf), she was such a loving, caring sweet lady.

I saw this the other day, then again today. I find myself wondering if someone is minding her plants or if the bunnies went ahead and had the super buffet. I do not mean that in a bad way. I know if I was not here, half my stuff would croak. I know my plants like no one else possibly could.

Janet sent me a passiflora vine and I put it out by my pond. Last year was the first time I saw it. It bloomed too! I saw something over there spreading around and vining out and had to stop and think. Then I thought of Janet. :)

We've had bunnies in the yard since the house was built.... until this year. I decided to use organic rather than synthetic lawn fertilizer. Apparently Dr. Earth has enough bone meal or blood meal to scare them away. Haven't even had to put a fence around the vegetable garden.

I read in the Farmer's Almanac to use baby powder but cannot vouch for it.

you know blood/bone meal can have undesirable side effects

Skunks and possum will be rooting around looking around for the source of the dead smell. I quit scratching that stuff in around roses and stuff because of them.
