Can anyone tell me if you are supposed to pinch back Maltese Cross 2 or 3 times before they bloom like you do Chrysanthemums? I heard that, but am unsure
Maltese Cross
I've never heard that before and I've never pinched mine back. Every year they bloom better then the year before. Joy
I cut mine back after they have flowered and sometime they flower again. But never heard of pinching them befor they bloom.

Well, I called We-du nursery in Marion , NC, where I bought the Maltese Cross. They specialize in wildflowers, both native types and others from around the world. They said, yes, I could pinch them back to make them bush out, so I did. Perhaps later I will let you all know whether that worked or not. Of course, my fear was that it might prevent them from flowering this year, but I got the go-ahead, so I'm gonna try it.
