I'm having trouble with hundreds of cucumber beetles eating everything that gets in their way. They especially like my brugmansia blooms. Is there a bait or spray that will get these things without my having to ruin the blooms on the plants. I've been squishing them, but they are quick unless I use the walls of the flower to trap and squish. I'd like to find something that wouldn't ruin the flowers when spraying for them. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Cucumber Beetles
I resorted to malathion. they left :)
Brugie -
A traditional non-pesticide method for those who are not afraid to squish:
Squash and then rub the... uh... juices all over the flowers and other sensitive parts. Most insects will aviod places where cousins got iced. Doesn't work all the time, but in most cases will reduce the problem to managable levels. Especially good with aphids, but I don't have much experience with Cuc Beetles, so FMIA (forgive me in advance) if it doesn't work.
Thanks you two. I'll try anything. I just sprinkled Diazinon all over the place. Maybe the smell will send them away. I used DE this spring around the asparagus and it worked for the eating season, but now, here they are again and everything is so grown up it would be hard to put the DE down. I'm not afraid to squish. Will try that and if it doesn't work, I'll have to go find some Malathion. Thanks again.
tiG, does Malathion ruin the blooms? I don't want to mess up what little bloom I have right now on the brugs.
