This is the second year this has developed buds and it looks like again, they won't amount to anything. (The buds just form and eventually drop.)The leaves are not browned... Yes, I fertilized. No , I have not over-watered. Everything about it seems healthy, but I know that something's awry here. Any help would be EXTREMELY appreciated. Thanks ~ Irene
Variegated ROS won't bloom
Pip... Hope this helps but I don't fertilize my regular ROS at all and they bloom like crazy and really don't water often just mostly rain water they get and in summer it is very little!
Good Luck!
Rebecca
I have a regular ROS in the back and it blooms like crazy, too. I was starting to wonder if it has "something" to do with it being variegated... They are both tended to the same way. Both in the sun . The one in the back gets bombarded with june bugs . < In my best Cary Grant voice impression> " I haaaate june bugs ! hehe The variegated one faces occassional ants. ??? I dunno
Are you having any trouble with the leaves? Ants carry aphids onto plants...just a thought!
Maybe it is just being stubborn!!!
Hmmm... ?? Guess maybe I oughtta break out the magnifying glass again... You know I used a little systemic stuff on it,too. (Rosepride) Last year it did the same darn thing. I asked the guy at the nursery ,and he said it sounded like "bloom rot"... from too much water.( Even though I couldn't see that being it. This year I specifically made sure not too even chance that. And still... =( Thanks for the thoughts, though. I will go out and spend some time studying it.
Pipsqueak.....Rose of Sharon has a tendency to be stressed,(lack of sunshine, hard pruning the late springtime), and sometimes the blossom rot is caused by the lack of calcium in the soil. This last part is a physiological symptom rather than a chemical one or insect one(say, Thrips)..sunshine and lots of it and watering every three or fourdays are needed most..nothing to do with the foliage! I hope this helps...Elaine
Elaine, thank you so much!! The soil here is a very hard clay, full of rocks. It's taken me years to amend the other garden beds.We put in this bed last year, kinda spur of the moment. ( I was going to do it myself one weekend * 40 ft. long bed *, yeah, what was I thinkin'??! )...turned out DH and kids had to help me the whole weekend. Became a real family affair!Well, I sure will see to your calcium suggestion ! I'm so glad for the insight available here... Thanks so much again ~
Rebecca, thanks to you , too !! ;)
