Our visit with Calalily

Today Trish, our two children, and I went to visit Calalily at her greenhouse business in Powell, TN. It is an extremely impressive operation with lots of greenhouses, rows and rows and rows and rows of beautiful plants, and lots of happy customers coming and going.

She also took us over to her house where she shows us her gardens which, although it's early in the season, are already well underway with tons and tons of different kinds of plants.

To top off a wonderful morning, she loaded us down with plants galore!! In exchange for my 3 succulent plants and siberian iris, she gave me:

300 8 inch brugsmansia plants (no, that's not a typo).

2 flats of cauliflowers
2 flats of broccolis
A flat of cabbage

(She offered much more of these three, but that was all I had room for) :)

and for Trish, she gave an almost uncountable number of flowers, including several different hostas, several different ferns, a flat of opium poppies, a flat of nasturtiums, and at least 10 other kinds of perennials that Trish is sorting through at the moment.

On top of this, Calalily gave us lots of propagation tips and introduced us to all her pets. She was a gracious host and we can't wait to see her again!

Thanks for a great morning Susie!

Sounds wonderful Dave and Trish,
I can hardly wait to go over there to visit Susie myself. Reading about your visit made me want to go tomorrow. Susie has promised to come see me in Nashville and hopefully she will get the time once the business season slows down a bit for her. I think her business website is great and really would be nice to have posted here so that everyone can enjoy seeing what a great business they have. That site is:
wwww.openairgardens.com I am hoping Susie can come to the gathering in August and I am planning to go see her and her business then.

Wow, what a generous person she must be...
300 brugmansias???? I am impressed, Dave, be sure to take pictures of your brugs when they are in bloom, would love to see what a magnificent sight it will undoubtedly be.

WHEW! What a day of planting I have had!! Thanks to Susie, I actually have plants in my garden :)

Like Dave said, Calalily is a MOST generous hostess :) We truly enjoyed our morning there. If you ever get a chance to go see her- DO! But watch out....she tried to steal DS from me once :)

Let me tell you, for $2.99 (I bought a Gerber Daisy), my minivan was overflowing with plants!

Thanks so much, Calalily! I can't wait to see you again...next time, you'll have to see Whitinger Hill!

Too cool! Dave, I know you've probably heard this countless times, but THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for creating a place where gardeners can meet, and find other gardeners in their area or halfway around the world....it IS a small world, especially when you're talking about gardens and their stewards.

Bless you and Trish - have fun with all your new plants!!!!

BTW Elena - I am linking to Calalily's page! Check out my links section under the "Help" menu. She's listed in my "websites of Dave's friends" section.

Hi all
Dave and Trish are the sweetest people you would ever want to meet. They have two of the cutest kids I have ever seen and very well behaved I might add. Dave brought more than little succulents, don't let him kid you. He brought me a huge clump of his Grandmothers Siberian iris too!!
I want everyone to know their plants will be one day late because I was giving garden tours today, LOL.
Dave and Trish, the plants were my way of saying thank you for making this a great forum and wonderful place to meet new friends.
Elena
My aunt came to visit on Sunday from Nashville. I've got to go see her soon and see what she has that I "need". She brought me two large bags of Tiger Lilies for my "living fence".

Calalily: I planted out all the Brassicas today!! I now have what I call the "Brassica Mile" in the garden. Broccolis, Cauliflowers, and Cabbages as far as the eye can see. ;-)

I hope you enjoy the siberian iris - it really is a beautiful plant. My mom (GrannyLois) has grown these for years and gave me a huge amount of them last fall.

Oh, I see you're in the chatroom! Well, I'll talk to you there. :)
