mingsmimi, to try to sum it up, there was an incident a few days ago: some flower photos were used by an eBay seller (not a DG member) without permission. He has since removed the photos, but the incident sparked some questions about how to best protect our members' photos without defacing them.

At this point, there are no attorneys involved in the issue that prompted this thread. Gardenwife's link was pointing out the seriousness of copyright protection. And it's a two-way street: no one here wants to find their work used without permission, and it's not okay for any of us to post "borrowed" photos to the Plants Databse or forums without obtaining permission from the photographer.

Mings - it was me. Someone let me know that my photos were being used on e-bay by a fellow selling seeds. I didn't intend for the thread to snowball like it has - but I think that it's an issue that will come up sooner or later. I'm glad to see all the opinions about it. I think Dave has done a fabulous job with the copyright choices. I bet there isn't another webmaster out there in cyberspace that would go that extent for the members!!

WOW!!!!!!!! Oh my. my mouth is fallen open! WOW! had no idea! WOW! How did someone use your photos to sell their things on ebay. Nevermind everyting else. that tacky to boot! TO even think of finding things from one site and using them to sell on eBay at another. WOW! People constantly amaze me. There are alot of people sellign on eBay. they probably figures what are the odds of you finding out. WOW!!!!!!!! Did you contact them>I still can not believe it!how would you even come up with such a thing. Well, I am sure you contacted eBay and steps were taken. They weren;t probably even selling a product! just sending what ever . Get rich off your photos and the 'seeds off a bagle'. as Dh would say.

Oh Great!! I want you all to know - I am NOT poppysue on e-bay. Sheesh!! I'm spools1. I was spools1 before there was a Dave's Garden. I thought about changing my e-bay name to poppysue - but I guess that idea is out the window now - LOl.

Mings, I think it might actually be the same PoppySue - she has sold stuff on eBay before. If not, well - names aren't copyrighted ;)

lolol! See., its good to keep a sence of humor at all times! You just have to remember one thing. Worry about what you CAN control. now what you have no control over.

I'm not that concerned about my images being theived. If I wanted to use them for personal gain, I would do that. If someone else can use them then let them. I know I should be more concerned, but I like the pics as they are and 50 years from now, none of it will matter. If I have a valuable photo and don't know it, well so be it! At least i enjoyed sharing and someone else can reap the headaches of publishing and marketing. If they aren't stealing from our pics they would be stealing from my home, and I have already been there and done that!

very true. There is so much info and things on line. not much you can do about it. no use wringing your hands. Only thing you ruely can control is what YOU put on here. If you are so concerned about someone taking it. Don;t put it there. You are in control of what you put there. Everyone has choices.
