Gallardia

Cleveland, OH(Zone 5b)

A very nice and generous person sent me this for postage, along with an assortment of other perennials from her garden. But--- I can't find anything on the gallardia. Can someone tell me what it is and what it will look like?
Thanx!

Sometimes they are called blanket flowers too.

Mine are extremely hardy and bloom right up to a hard frost.I can just about always count on them for a bouquet for the Thanksgiving table. The reseed easily and the only thing that bothers them is a wind and rain storm. They blow over and aren't as attractive after. It won't kill them(not much will)but they just get raggedy looking.Cut the long stems off and they will usually send up new flowers.

But gophers sure love their roots, anything that is in the herb family, so if you have any around, be sure to plant over some mesh screening of some type.

Yes, in May cut by 1/2 to shorten the plant. This controls the floppiness.

Celia, try searching under "gaillardia" with an extra "i". Nice plants! We have a native one here in Texas ~ red/orange and gold and LOVES full sun and heat! Here's the PDB entry for gaillardia: http://plantsdatabase.com/search.php?search_text=gaillardia&Search.x=40&Search.y=11 There's a pic in there of mine under Gaillardia pulchella.
