diiividing "blue flags"?

When is the best time to divide these? I have a trade going on and wondered if I can divide and ship them now..

July and August are fine, definitely should be done before middle of September so they can establish before cold weather. There should be a nice healthy rhizome on each side of the old one which bloomed this spring. Remember to plant so that the rhizome is on the surface! John

After I divide and replant my iris, I cut off only the amount of leaf blade so they don't tip up and out of the ground before re-establishing. :)
