lantana questions

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

Hi: I looked this up in the database but it didn't say what kind of fertilizer lantana needs and how often. I would also like to know what ph it prefers; my soil is very acid.

Poor soil is best for lantana, and believe me ....you don't need any fertilizer!! Just occassional watering and lots of sun!!

They will benefit from the addition of lime or something to produce a more alkaline soil. Eyes and I are blessed with this nasty old Texas chalk, but just over the line in Louisiana is very acid soil, and they don't grow there as wild as here. We can practically grow them on the limestone rocks. Fireplace ashes are usually good, as are jillions of eggs shells.

Ah but Aimee.......I have sandy loam.....I'm way north of you, in the Red River Valley. I just stick mine in the ground, and they reseed on their own like crazy, don't have to do anything to them, or any ammendments. Probably someone who lives in the south east can tell what is best for that area. I bet agapanthus, or Horseshoe could tell us that.

Well, thanks folks. I did put a little Black Kow and bone meal in the hole, which apparently they didn't need. I will refrain from here on, I promise. I don't suppose what I did will kill them?
