I had to start a new thread, the other one was taking too long to open...and I kept checking to see where we stood....
So, it has been discussed for a couple of months, did anyone ever buy the flexi hose?
I am seriously considering it, the business about the flexi hose having to be completeley unwound makes sense, so I guess we'd have to start at the far end of the garden and work our way back....
who has used the flexi hose?
Merton's has purchased the hose- a site that sells commericial flat hose- I called...his wife purchased it but it hadn't arrived yet. I have it on my calendar to call in 2 weeks to check for arrival. I feel like I'm waiting for a birth - ok, an exhaggeration.. I'll share the info if and when I get it
Just take steady deep breaths. Inhale, pause, exhale. Slowly.... Now keep focused...
Oh, sorry! Lamaze flashback moment :)
i was looking at a coil hose at meijer last night-30.00
I want one for the greenhouse!!!
i do have a coil hose for my greenhouse. i like it because i don't have to roll it up everytime i am done using it. it does it itself. i got mine at sams club 50' for $20.
I saw coil hoses at wal-mart for $17. Not sure how long they were but the coils were bigger than the one I have.
Where is the Sam's club, Walmart--whatever stores that have the coiled or flat hose? I live in Seattle area- can't find it. I also need about 150'length. I imagine I'd be fighting a coil hose of that length from recoiling ....
Suggestions really welcomed
I'll check my walmart and let you know, vancouver isnt a very long drive for a hose (3-4 hours??)
you have so many stores in the seattle area, I'm sure you could find one there though.
Although it's just a "regular" hose and still lays on the ground unless you feel like dragging it around somewhere...I bought the lifetime warranty rubber hose from Sears. You can't beat that. I figure this will be one of the last hoses I buy in my life...seriously. If it busts or wears out in any way, I'll simply take it back for a new hose (free of charge)...just like you do with Craftsman Tools. I may need one or two more once my other non-Sears hoses wear out, but that will be all I have to buy. It's a very nice hose too.
Only 3-4 hrs drive for a hose?
Would the coil hose be effective if use with a sprinkler head on the ground, or would it coil back up and water my house. I need to connect to about 125 to 150 ft of hose?
Of course I could stick a spike through it and keep it in place, but that doesn't seem like a good idea.
<< Of course I could stick a spike through it and keep it in place, but that doesn't seem like a good idea. >>
LOL! No, a stake through it wouldn't be such a good idea, but *huge* staples are available that work beautifully to keep hose where you want it. The staples are designed to hold edging in place. Home Depot carries the staples in its garden department where bird netting, trellises, etc., are on display.
I noticed my Walgreen's circular today had the flexi-hose listed for $29.99 (50-foot).
Also, my Home Depot has the coil hoses - $19.99 for 50 foot.
I purchased a coil hose earlier this year, and it's springy, but I would think it would stay down with a sprinkler attached - I'm not sure you could get it to lay perfectly flat if you were wanting to extend it the full 50 feet though (the coils tend to reduce it's useable length.
Okay, y'all say you have the coil hoses - so do they work as advertised? Do they get tangled? Do they really snap back into their coil easily? I'm interested!
Kim, yes they are springy and the coil seems to remember what it's suppposed to do. They can get a little tangled, but not too badly, it seems.
Where they fall short (IMO) is that the hose (when full of water) still tends to mangle the plants when dragged around. Maybe I was expecting too much, but I was hoping it would be lightweight and springy enough to kind of bounce along on top of the plants. But when you're using it, it's pretty much like a regular hose in terms of weight and manageability.
I have several and have found that storing them in the coiled position rather than trying to hang keeps them from getting tangled. It is annoying when you have two together and they are worse than regular hose when tangle cause they coil together. I do like the fact they dont take up much space and they seem a little lighter than regular hose. I will continue to use mine, but when it is time to purchase again I think I'll go with the lifetime hose that is flat and rolls into it's own cylinder.
I got one of them from Home Depot about a month ago. $20 for 50 feet. Like go_vols said, they do recoil rather well. I have a problem going around garden corners with it, because it's harder to control the coils which then knock over plants easily. Two days after I bought it, something bit a hole through it about two feet from the nozzle and now when I use it, I can get a shower at the same time as the plants.
Well, yesterday was the day, I ordered two flat hoses. Just can't deal with the tangles anymore from the coiled hose. Guess its time for a yard sale !
Haigr, I hope you let us know how it works..and if it as great as they seem
I'll let you know pebble, they are on back order for 2 weeks I am told so I'll continue to struggle with the coiled hose a bit longer! I thought I was gonna really like the recoil, but it is really a pain.
I just saw a picture of the coil at raintree nursery, it looks so cool, too bad it's not what it's cracked up to be.
I hope this one works for you
my husband just ordered this for me, they said 2-3 weeks shipment. what I dont get is this: they charge like 10 bucks for shpg....well geez you could ship it priority for that...why does it take so long.
I got an e-mail from them advertising it, and it comes with some attachements (free)
in case anyone is interested here is the link:

I am so excited.....
Pebble look up! at my flat hose post - I ordered mine from the same site and am still waiting, but the price was much better on that one, there was another site that had them available to ship that day but they were about $12 more. I'll let you know. I am really tired of yanking those coiled hoses around and disappointed as I thought they would be great - WRONG!!!
Haighr, you ordered from the same place? what a coincidence. You ordered it on the 19th, so it's been a week.....
I ordered some stuff (gibberalic acid) over a week ago, and stillhavent received it, I'm getting a little ticked.
I hope these hoses work haighr
let me know when you get yours
Well, it's now official. I really, really, really don't like my coil hose. I've gotten very tired of having to upright my containers every time I try to stretch out the hose. I could move the containers, but then the hose would knock down plants in the ground.
Back to the regular old hose that has to be rewound after each use.
Haighr, I am so excited....I just cant wait.....
I am anxious for them too pebble, I ordered two just like I did when I ordered the flex, sure hope we like em. Steve says I've now got enough hose to run a pipeline of oil from Alaska LOL and he is about right.
lol haigr....I try to get rid of the old ones, so that I don't get any flack from my husband.....
Okay, couldn't wait for the two week catalog flat hose order, so I purchased one at Lowes for $20. Brought it home, unwound it and thought fabulous! BUT, I hooked it up, turned on the water and it shot right off the spigot, BROKE! Didn't work for 10 seconds. Back to Lowes, no receipt of course and they didn't want to take it without, but I was spared because it was already the third one returned that same day!!! My hose purchases this year are starting to look like the national debt!
Say haighr, did you get an e-mail confirming your order?
I didnt, and am wondering if the order went thru.
good luck with the new hose, let me know how the new one works, did you get a new one from lowes? or just get your $$ back?
Got credit for the return. Didn't want to buy another since three people had returned theirs that day with the same malfunction. Haven't heard anything about the mail order one myself, I hope if they do arrive they are better than that thing from Lowes!
I hope so Haighr.
Just thought I'd let you all know that we got our flat hose, have only used it once. It dows seem to be lighter than a regular hose, but egads...when you roll it back up, you have to empty the water out, and it isnt like a regular hose wehre you can..it's kind of hard to explain. I love the lightness of it....it isnt as easy to put away as they lead you to believe.
haigr, did you get yours yet?
Pebble I have one of those coily hoses, I am with zeb. They still kink and they do knock things over in the greenhouse. I got mine at Costco. My sister said she read where there is some chemical residue in them and not to drink from them. I am not going to get another, that is for sure. I went back to my regular hose in the greenhouse. And they don't seem to put out the same volume of water as a reg.hose.Joann
I've gone through a lot of hoses this year. The flexi hose looked great, but no way was it condusive to what I use a hose for. I then got the flat hose at Lowes - it broke within 3 seconds and was returned for credit. The two flat hoses I ordered through the mail came about 2 weeks ago. Once you take them off the reels you can't put them back on cause they hold just a bit of water and won't wind back up. You have to actually lay them all out before turning the water on cause if there is a fold the water stops there. After all that time and expense, I'm using the good old fashioned hoses that we have had around for years LOL!
SO it is a bust??? well I almost bought one myself..............
They are certainly not cracked up to be what the advertisers say. If you want to try any out, come on over to my place, as we now have two flat hoses (50') each and two flexi-hoses (75'each)!
I'm with haighr, not what they are cracked up to be....
well that is too bad........esp for Pebble...........you were so excited!! Another gimmick to take our $$ away from us!
yep kell, you'd think that we would know better...well, I must have been dreaming. I never order anything from the TV, and always tell me kids that it's never the way they show it etc etc., but this was thru the internet, it was an e-mail advertising the hose "as seen on TV" oh well...you live and learn, and learn and learn andhopefully one day you will learn my your mistakes - lol
I just hope I am not 100 when I finally learn by mine!!!
