I was at Walmart last night helping my sister pick out plants, when I came across a fuschia that had seen better day, but it was the only red/purple one, It was pretty splindly, and just not something you'd pay much money for, it was marked for 14 something, and after looking it over I walked away, well later on in our shopping expedition, one of the workers was marking down stuff and I asked her if she would mind coming to the fuschia section and taking a look at this particular plant that was on it's last legs, and sure enough she marked it down 50%, still 7 bucks and change. So I bought it, now Im wondering if i made a mistake, or if I can in fact get it to bush out??
anyone have any ideas with this? other than giving it lots of fertilizer, should I pinch back, or take cuttings of the long stems and put them in the center of the pot???
Fuschia
It's always fun to experiment.
Why don't you try some of each of your ideas?
I think I will GL, and see what develops.
You might end up with a multitude of fuschias. Wouldn't that be something?
Good luck. I have found them hard to grow.
Fuchsia loves the English climate just not the winter.
I agree with GL pinch back and take cuttings, they root incredibly easily and soon you'll wonder what to do with all the cuttings :)
I have a Fuschia Tree in bloom now. I didn't have any luck so far rooting cuttings, but will keep trying. Yhis is about 4ft tall, a gift fron DIL.
Sounds cool Azalea. They sell those here, but they are very expensive.
Azalea
I'm thinking of your tree being the same as our standard? Has a stem trunk with no leaves except the bushy bit at the top?
I was speaking to the Fuchsia nursery near my home the other day because one of our favourite Fuchsias - Wedding Day (big, almost pure white double) never takes from cuttings for us. The grower told me that there are varieties that don't take well from cuttings, maybe your Fuchsia is one of them?
May be, I have lost them all up to now!! Mine is red with the purple center - will post a pic asap, busy today babysitting two grandsons.
