Gardening too much

The message is clear, it's been coming on for a long time ... Baa gardens too much.

It comes to something when your Mother's neighbours shout, 'Hello, what interesting plants have you bought for your Mom today then Baa?' or their visitors asking them if you work in a nursery.

A trip to the local garden centres or nurseries usually sees Baa having to tell several people that, no, I'm sorry I don't work here. Customers either clap their hands over their mouth in embarrassment or slope away looking at me suspiciously in case I'm a lazy worker. It gets worse, of course, neighbours knowing my obsession and being mistaken for a GC worker is one thing ... having nurserymen on the trade stands at plant fairs saying hello again, how are you today; or, haven't seen you about for a while, is another. Some I haven't seen for a year at a time and a couple know me by name.

I've tried to flatter myself that I have a memorable face, but that may be a backhanded compliment in so many ways *G*. It could be that nurserymen have an incredible memory for faces or at least the plants those faces buy. However, I think I shall resign myself to the fact that I spend too much time discussing plants and gardening.

I wouldn't mind so much if I bought plants but very often I just go for a look at what other people are growing! Gardening can't be that small a world.

So in conclusion, I feel now that I must stand up and say, 'Hello, I'm Baa and I'm a verbal plantaholic'

LOLOL Baa! And don't forget a plantbookaholic too :)

LOL Baa, I have a nursery where they are trying to get me to come and advise them!!! For free, of course...

No, one cannot garden too much, unless one's family has to come and hoist you off the sod to which you've crawled after becoming overwhelmed physically - has happened, I'm afraid!

And talking about gardening - no, never too much. WE are the ones who are set firmly on solid, if weedy, ground. WE are the ones still in touch with the soil, under our nails, in our hair from tossing all those weeds against the wind. WE are the people who know that green isn't intended as hair color, but as the color the outdoors should and must be, with highlights of red, blue, pink, yellow and all shades in between.

So go forth proudly and greet those nursery men and neighbors and astound them all with your wonderful knowledge. Maybe you'll make some converts and the world will be a better place!

Wonderful Baa. I had the same thing happen to me last year Kathleen. (and I am no where as knowledegable as you three) The people called one night and asked me to make them a list of what people would buy. I had been to the shop and they actually was saving the plants that had become shop worn for me. They said they knew I would make them pretty again. Sad to say they went out of business this year. They tried to expand the flower shop into a convientient store for produce also and it didn't work out.

Shh Philomel I've not yet admitted to the book problem yet ;)

Wow Kathleen and Jim, even nurserymen ask your advice ... that's something to tell the grandkids!

Kathleen

So true!
