Does Rain Lilies multiply?

Plymouth, PA(Zone 5b)

Someone sent me some rain lily bulbs.. Today I noticed 1 out of all the ones I planted bloomed. DO these multiply or will I only have just one?
thanks

Yes they do multiply by off sets of the bulbs and they may seed as well

I second this. justmeLisa sent about a dozen rain lilies to me last year. I ended the summer with over 100 bulbs.

My boss told me that rain lilies really bloom more right after a rain, that is where they get their name. Since she owns the Farm where I work & has been in the business for years, I think she must know what she is talking about.:~)

Yes, it is so. All along the highway and in lawns, I see groups of them, where there was nothing before the recent rains. They will usually form a little loose pod of flattish black papery seeds. These vary widely in germination rates, and I have never spent enough time to find out if it is a seasonal thing but suspect the ones that form too fast might not be viable. This is an odd lily, lying totally unseen from a few inches deep to over a foot. I have found them even deeper when removing rocks to make a new bed. It seems to just appear from nowhere with a bloom stalk of several inches tall. But watering won't necessarily cause it to appear, so there is obviously some element in rain that triggers growth.
