On June 6 I will retire. YIPPEE! and it is also my birthday. My daughter gave me a Gerbera Daisy today for those occasions. And a cake and some watermelon and fresh corn and bell peppers and a big package of mountain trout, yum. I don't know anything about Gerberas. Are they an annual or a perennial?
Gerbera Daisy
They are a tender perennial. I bought two last year, which turned out to be three, but that's what they put in the pots. I just put them out yesterday after wintering them over inside. They like good drainage and full sun and to my pleasant surprise, bloomed under the lights this past winter. Unfortunately, mine are both suffering from sunburn, the two cloudy days the weather channel promised turned out to be two glorius sunny days, but I'm not complaining. They will just have to put up a bunch of new leaves and soldier on in the goood weather!
BTW, Congratulations and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you Kathleen. The little tag that was in the soil said they made good houseplants, too. Now if I just had a really sunny window...........
They do well here in full sun. The leaves got bit by the last cold spell we had and turned a reddish color but are back to treir natural selves now. They just bloom all summer long. I never dig mine and just put a good bed of mulch bfore cold weather sets in.
Congratulations on the retirement. Hope you enjoy the extra time at home. Happy Birthday also.
