Whine , complain!! Sowed most of the pack of black peony poppy (shared some in a trade) and same with the new red larkspur from Thompson/Morgan, Have 2 poppy plants and no larkspur yet!!! Still keeping my fingers crossed, because they were the only ones carrying the larkspur. Maybe it is the weather, but-------
poor seed showing-is it the weather or fate
Marcia, my self-seeded poppies are just coming up - VERY LATE, so don't give up hope. They may just be waiting for the weather. I haven't even planted my larkspur yet. Maybe over the weekend, but it's raining now, so I will have to see. The ash leaves are just now coming out, I can almost watch the progress. What a strange year!
I planted lots of poppy seeds, and I haven't seen a one yet. I thought I had weeded them out accidentally, not knowing what they looked like, but now I have a picture that poppysue posted, and I know that what I weeded out were not poppies. Still hoping to see them up one of these days, since some of them were the Lauren's Grape that I went through hell and high water to find. Our weather went from very cold to very hot in a matter of days, so I'm wondering if that has something to do with it. It froze and snowed one day, then two days later we had upper 70's and now we are into the 80's. No spring here at all, unless you count the nice weather in Feb.
I think it is just the weather because we finally got some heat this week and i have tons of seeds popping up. I was afraid they weren't gonna make it. :)
Joan, when your Lauren's Grape set seed, would you like to trade? I ordered early, but missed them - got Danish Flag instead which I really don't like at all. SIGH
Kathleen, I'll let you know if they come up and set seed. I planted them away from the other poppies, so I'm hoping the seed will come true to type.
I hope they come up at least. Still no sign of them.
Thanks for words of encouragement, I will try and be patient. We have had the same weird weather-warm winter cold spring- freezing one night and 80"s the next day. today they are calling for thunderstorms with damaging hail. I am hoping they are wrong, as the iris I traded for 2 years ago and in bud and have just started to bloom. Lots of stuff in bud/bloom with our streak of hot/humid and I really do not want to lose things like I did in our last hail storm. This is the weirdest season that I have ever experienced gardening.
