I'm sure I've read thoughts about this before, but can't find them via search. What kinds of identification tags do you find work best in your flower beds/gardens? We have the silver ones you write on with a ballpoint pen, but find them hard to read. Would like some other type that wouldn't fade or disappear with the weather, yet would be easy to read (and not cost a mint!). Any thoughts?

plant identification tags
Hi, Bill! Welcome to DG! I'm currently trying out new tags as anything handwritten that I've used so far (even permanent markers) fade out in this Texas sun. The ones that lasted the longest and that might work for you in your more northern clime were Marks-a-Lot permanent marker on cut up plastic jugs. I can't remember who told me to try aluminum soda cans cut up and written on with a ball point pen on the shiny side, but it might be the same thing as what you've already tried. I don't know if you use something bigger to write with if it'll make a difference. ??
BTW, another good forum to post this question is Garden Talk: http://davesgarden.com/forums/gardentalk.html This one is more for questions and comments about the site (Yeah, I thought it was about Dave's home garden at first, too! LOL!). And guess what I happen to have bookmarked? A thread from Garden Talk about plant tags! http://davesgarden.com/showthread/241604.html :-) I just went there and it was Schmetterling that mentioned the soda cans ~ about halfway down the thread.
Welcome, again! You're gonna' love it here! If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to post about it! There are LOADS of helpful, handy people here.
