Have not been able to get my Dutch iris to come back a second year-again. I am in 4/5. My nephew in NJ (Zone 6?) has the same problem. Is there some trick to dealing with them?

Where are they situated Marcia?
In England we tend to treat them as annual bulbs or grow them in pots. They need a very well drained soil with reletively little water during their dormancy in summer. It may be that they are just not hardy in your zone and might need a cold greenhouse cover over winter. Ours gets that but mainly because of the rainfall rather than the frost.
They were in part sun and well drained and the catalog said they were hardy to zone 4, but will try again as pot plant. Thanks.
