Kathleen looks on the bright side

Panama, NY(Zone 5a)

You all know that I seem to live in the snow pit of the lower 48, western New York state gets a large dose of snow whenever the wind blows cold across Lake Erie and that happens quite regularly. Not usually in late May, but yesterday we had some thick white precipitation on the ground and the cars to a depth of about 1/2 an inch. This morning we had a hard freeze. Tonight in the light of a moon just gone first quarter we will no doubt get another good shot of cold. Sounds depressing, and I could let it really get to me, but I decided just now when I was out that the weeds and overgrown forget-me-nots will help insulate the flowers, and therefore get a one night reprieve. The frost will no doubt put a good deal of hurt into the knot weed that we haven't yet conquered, leaving it quite vulnerable to the Round-Up I have in store for it tomorrow afternoon. And, I have been given a week's grace on the wildflower garden that I have planned, but not dug because everything has been slowed. So, you see, it is possible to see this in a good light. Don't plan on this response if it continues past tomorrow - be ready for wailing and gnashing of teeth - but for this evening, I am taking a positive slant.

Every silver lining has a cloud ;) Your weather isn't very nice to you is it.

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

Kathleen keep the faith....I admire your outlook, and wish that I could have more of your view. I will quite grumbling about the never ending rain and enjoy the fact that I dont have to water my garden.

markleysburg, PA(Zone 5a)

Amen Snow/rain mix here today at noon on the mountain at 2900 feet and hard freeze tonight. Never have I seen this Shirley

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

Kathleen - Oh Braveheart!!!! I hope your admirable attitude only has to last a little longer and that all that white wet stuff soon leaves your domain!! You had better take the Agapanthus in for a warm by the fire!! :-) We too are expecting frost tonight!! Exciting isn't it (says she with raised eyebrows and turning up the heat)!!

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

I'm glad someone is enjoying this, 'cuz I'm getting plum mean! I hate watching these plants in the house flop all over the place, when they should be able to go outside now.

It got up to 81 here today, but we are to have dry lightening storms this evening, which is a BAD thing, since the 50 mph winds for the past two days have dried everything out terribly, and all the dry lightening will do is start fires all over the place.

We are predicted to have lows into the 40's tonight and 30's tomorrow night, and then a good possibility of rain mixed with snow on Thursday. Ugg! 80 in the day and 30 at night? Pretty extreme changes and I can see the flu bugs enjoying the heck out of this weather. :( That's what's probably next, everybody will get sick. (Knocks on wood)

Well, that's how well I am handling this weather! LOL!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Kathleen its supossed to get nice tomorrow, just think ,it slowed down the grass from growing.......And I thought Syracuse was the snow pit....no,thats right, its just the pits......

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Well,I sit here in normally balmy West KY looking at the mud pit that should be my veggie garden...IN A SWEATSHIRT !!!

I did manage to get the roses planted Kathleen, and so far,It looks like all survived.

I'm really getting frantic here...I should have had ripe tomatoes this weekend for the cookout in shorts and tees. Instead,we have windbreakers and long pants still in the front of the closet. What a Spring!!

Hope the white stuff is gone by now.

Middle, TN(Zone 6b)

Yeah, Mel. This has been a nutty spring. I spend several hours in the early morning dreading going out in the cold to start working. Then I head out wearing a tee shirt, a sweat shirt, a flannel shirt, thick warm up pants and look like I am going out in the winter time. Our heirloom tomatoes that you gave us and also the ones that Terry gave us are doing ok but I am wondering if the cold and dampness will "set them back". I don't think things ever produce as well if they have a set back.
One thing about it, we are having GOOD weather compared to some of our DG friends who are still having freezes. Maybe it will all settle down soon.
