Best forum for......

Lancaster, CA

Which is the best forum for general vegetable gardening related questions. Which is best for fruit questions?

I don't seem to see one dedicated to either of those. Where do the majority of like minded gardeners hang out.

Chris, the tomatoes have a forum, and so do heirlooms. Try Garden Talk for any other general veggie/fruit garden question :)

There used to be a traditional vegetable gardening forum, but Dave dropped it. Presumably it wasn't very active, is why, but I don't know that for sure.

In it's absence, go-vols has it nailed. Heirlooms, Tomatoes, and Garden Talk are the main shots for veggies. In that order, I would say.

I don't understand why the general one wasn't more popular. Vegetable gardening forum at GW is one of the most active; more so, in fact, than the heirlooms one. And this despite the fact they have some more specific ones like tomatoes and hot peppers.

I tried to get a legumes forum started, but the consensus was to leave it under heirloom discussions.

If you have specific questions, don't hesitate to post them at either heirlooms or garden talk. Or tomatoes if they deal with that. None of us are that hard-nosed that we wouldn't try and help you out, even if that's not the very best forum to be using.

And to sort of echo Brook's sentiments: I'd love to have a Veggie Garden forum for general "edible gardens" discussions.

All I'd need is about 5 people to step forward and say they would use the forum and we'll put it up.

dave

Baa's waving her hand in the air to say I'd love an edibles forum!

If I raise both hands, does that count for two votes??? ;0)

I'll stand up and be counted on this one. Not sure if that makes it 4 or the necessary 5 go_vols LOL. If it helps i've got 2 hands 2!!

SURELY we can "proxy" vote for Melody since she doesn't seem to be around today. That would bring us up to five without having to cast any doubtful votes (a touchy subject in our country these days, LOL.)

LOLOL!

Richmond, KY(Zone 6b)

count me in for sure.

Doesn't that put us over the top without unauthorized proxies?

Right on Brook! Yes, true FIVE........

Now I'm starting to feel like a scene in The Magnificent Seven:

"Gregorio by the fountain, that's six......"

But it _is_ six Dave. One more than you said you needed.

Excellent. What shall we name the forum? Does a simple name like "Veggies" work for everyone?

Well don't count me out.. I'm in. If I can't eat it I hardly grow it. And yep Veggies works just fine, that way folks (me) won't have any trouble finding it later.

I'd rather see something like Vegetable Gardening, Dave.

I'm afraid "Veggies" is too baggy a term; you can put anything you want into it. So rather than growing we might get far afield into recipes, and general garden talk, etc. I'd like to keep this as on track as possible.

Right now the veggie growing folks who aren't into heirlooms (poor babies) really don't have a place. If we can keep the new forum as on-topic as heirlooms and tomatoes generall are things would work out great.

Good point, Brook. We shall call it the Vegetable Gardening forum then. I'll have it setup in a flash.

dave

It's done!
