OK, OK so this is going sound like a dumb question, but I read this so frequently I am not sure exactly what they are talking about. I realize it will make a plant bushier, but where EXACTLY do you pinch? And when? Thanks so much for your patience!
Pinch the growing tip.....???
It depends on which plant you are pinching. If it only needs a light pinch to bush out, I just pinch out the top new growth, taking a bit of the stem. If it needs a hard pinch like mums, monarda, phlox paniculata or something like that, I take out a bunch, leaving only a few inches of stem.
Calalily, how about pinching back lochroma? I pinched them back pretty hard when they were growing, and again after I put them out. However, are getting a bit leggy and I can't pinch now because they're full of buds or flowers.
Cala, do the Phlox that you sent me require this kind of pinching back??
