I very dutifully planted my potatoes on St. Patrick's Day, and they have flower buds already. So when do I dig them? This is only the second time I have grown potatoes, and last time they never did flower. Just dug them as they started to go dormant.
Any advice from experienced veggy growers greatly desired.

HELP! Potatos are flowering!
Mine always flower around this time of year. That means they are healthy and doing well, and is no cause for alarm. You can ignore the flowers.
(Flowers usually indicate that the plant is at a stage where "new potatoes" are ready for harvesting. In fact, we ate some new potatoes with our dinner just last night. Dig your hand around in the ground under the plant and see if you can find any).
Thanks! I will dig one just as soon as it quits raining (maybe July? NOT LOL
Mine always flower and I just enjoy them. The red potatoes I grow have purple flowers, the russets have white. I leave my potatoes in the ground until after frost, they keep better in the ground than in the basement (52 degrees) where I have to store them for winter.
