Rain rain & more Rain

Plymouth, PA(Zone 5b)

Man I am so sick of all this rain. I hope it stops soon... I wanna get my trades & secret trade out this week but I am told it isnt good to dig Clay soil when its wet.. If I decide to dig in it anyway whats the worse that can happen?
thanks

You will compact the soil and plants will have a very difficult time growing in it. It's the equivalent of suffocating their roots. You really should avoid even walking in the garden when you have wet clay.

Thanks Aimee, This is not good... Cause they are saying rain everyday this week except for Wednesday & thursday. And now we are under Flood Watch.

tamlamb, I know how you feel. We had 5 cubic yards of topsoil/compost delivered on Saturday. We spread it all over the backyard. Now it looks like one giant mudhole!!! I'm ready to build an ARK!!!!

I'm with you there, can't take much more of this rain :(

Our yard is like a swamp too. My only consulation is that we had a very dry winter and needed moisture and I know beyond any doubt that GOD is in control and knows exactly what is best for us in the long run. But I do enjoy a dry sunny day now and then(like yesterday and supposedly today).

I know what you mean. We got 4 inches of rain Sunday evening. I work at a gravel business, which of course is near the east fork of the White River, and we were flooded out 2 1/2 days last week and now the river is out and higher than last week even. I have time to buy plants and not money because i'm out of work. UGH!!!!!!!

Hey dispatcher1 I am in Indiana also (central). I saw a farm field today with so much water & had waves, not just choppy water, actual waves with white caps (not ocean size, just lake size). More rain tonight & tomorrow. More flood watches coming out. Yuck! Fortunately we have good drainage and no standing water, the ground was sure mushy for a few days though. I just wish the farmers could get in their fields, they are about a month late for planting corn. Most of them haven't been touched this year. The one farmer I know that did plant before the 5" of rain here, said the fields were washed out of all he planted - back to square one.

Yes I know, the farmer across the highway(258) from the gravel pit worked all night a couple of weeks ago and got the corn planted, now it is washed away by the flow of the river. What a year!! We have had more rain all day today, thank goodness it was only "light" rain. Lou

sure wish you could send that rain my way. it is so dry here. i am watering everyday but things are still burning up on me. my potatoes have about died back and never bloomed due t0 the heat and drought.

Whoever can be first to invent and patent (did you read about the kid who patented a way to swing?) a way to "save" rain for a dry spell, or to "lend" it to another area will have their great-great-great grandkids futures assured!

Any scientists out there with a good idea?

My backyard (1/3 acre) has been underwater for the past 2 months. Just imagine the mosquitos!
