plants around pool
Try holly fern. You might have to pot it and take it in for winter, I don't know how hardy it is. Any wood fern that grows wild in your area will be nice. Cast iron plant, Aspidistra elatior, looks sort of tropical. Castor bean grows fast and has large leaves for a tropical effect. In an area where there is no foot traffic, try short trellises with vines that will grow fast, even evergreen vines.
I have evergreen Yews grown into a trimmed hedge around mine in NY. It is 15 years old so they are quite mature and look great. In FL we have Queen Palms at the corners and split leaf Philodendrons along the walkway but that won't work in PA.
tammy, you have your pool in the shade or sun??
i have jackin the pulpit, monkshood, ginger, columbine honey suckle, lupines, silverlace vine, sedums, ladybells, cleome and more!
Tig it gets morning Sun (if it ever shines again) on the and afternoon shade.
Notmartha If you can share some of these please email me. I will be happy to send postage.
thanks
