BLACK VELVET
(Red champagne Gooseberry x Worcesterberry cross)
Grape sized fruit and impressive growth habit. Produces heavy yield of dark red fruit. Complete resistance to mildew. This new cultivar will win for flavor, quality and beautiful berry color! Height is 4 ft. with a width of 3 ft. 12-18 in. plants. pH5-6.5, Zones (3-8).
This came from Mellinger's catalog. Just wondering if it is any good. Anyone tried this?

thanks, that says summer humid, cool regions is where it is best.....good grief I live in tx....but it shows it is ok in my zone...would like to hear from somebody who has this in a humid, hot zone.
My grandpa used to grow gooseberries before he passed away.I have no idea what kind they were,but he had them on the Northwest side of the house and they did fine.We have misrable hot,humid summers,but these seemed to pay no attention to the temps.
