I have a Iris that has bloomed for the first time and I didn't even know I had this color!! I am soo excited that I want ya'll to see it...problem is, I don't have a camera and the only one I do have is a computer eye cam, and sooooo that means I will have to cut if off and bring it in the house so I can get it close enough to the eye cam to get the pic. So if I cut off just the top bloom will the other 2 buds bloom out if I leave them out there? Or how would they do IF I cut the whole stalk and just put it in water, would they all bloom out?? somebody hurry and tell me before it starts to wilt for the night.
If I cut it will the rest still bloom?
Should think it's safest to cut the one that's out and leave the buds - but 'fingers crossed' - not certain. So pleased for you anyway :)
Otherwise, leave it til the last one blooms and cut and photo that.......
I am no expert on cutting flowers but hope to be someday. :) A while ago, I read for iris, to cut them when the top flower was open to ensure the rest would bloom. I have only tried it with the dwarfs and it seems to be true. Iris just don't bloom enough and it is too hard to sacrifice them by bringing them indoors. LOL
I was getting kinda antsy here, waiting on someone to answer my post LOL I think I am going to cut at least the top one now, I just can't wait to get it posted so ya'll can see it! hee hee Look for it on the photo forum.
Thanks ya'll
I'm waiting MOLLYBEE :-)
If there's other buds forming on it, I say whack it off! It'll bloom I'm sure. Iris are tough as nails. I tried to get some out of a certain location and I thought I had, but NO!...lol If you leave one little piece, it'll be back.
I would only cut off the entire stalk if there is color showing on all the remaining buds. Cutting off just the top bloom will not affect the other buds, but watch carefully, sometimes there is a second bud hiding just under a flower! Can't wait to see your Iris! John
I did it John! I would put a hyperlink in here, but I am clueless about that. I did post a pic of it and it wasn't a good one, but I redone it and posted one on the ID forum too in hopes of getting it ID. I just wish there was more of them! but its just the one. it had a total of 4 buds on one stalk, and I have never seen one with that many on a single stalk like that. I wonder if that is normal for this type of iris? Go check it out!! and tell me what you think
Hi MOLLYBEE, that is a lovely iris! I have no idea which one though. You may want to label it somehow for now so that you can keep an eye on it (maybe make room for it to spread). Beautiful color combination. John
I was just thinking the same thing John, In fact I am due to send aimee some of my other iris in Sept, so that will be the best way to do it... and if I screw up, then Aimee will be enjoying it next year! but since there is only one I better be careful huh? LOL
Aw, I would just feed it, let it grow and send you some back when it multiplied. Iris are for sharing. But do mark it, so you don't have to miss a season while I multiply it.
LOL Yea I am going to mark it somehow or the other. I am sure you would share if I sent it to ya by mistake hee hee
