I think mimulus are also called Monkey flower. They are bright yellows, and oranges but bloom in the shade. I tried to start some seed. but they are so tiny and I don't have a green house or even a cold frame. The germination was very poor and leggy.
Does anyone know of a site where I can order the plants? I am a little tired of impatiens and begonias for color in the shade.
mimula plants
I love mimulus. I grow them as an annual here. I start my own every year from the seeds of the previous year's plants. I put them under fluourescent lights and in domed flats to germinate. If you live near a garden center, you should be able to pick up minulus. Once they fill out in the pot or bed, you can pinch off stems and root them in water.
Well, the trouble is, I can't find them around here. Do you know a source for the plants? I have been unlucky sprouting the seeds.
Woodspirit1: Sorry to hear they don't offer mimulus in your garden centers. Calypsos seem pretty hardy. They are listed as a half-hardy perennial in your zone. Here's a link to the catalog page. Click on the Calypso pic to get more info. http://www.thompson-morgan.com/seeds/us/list_m_12.html
