Is this considered Tropical? what zones will it survive winter? I have read up on it but some pages say ok for zone 6 while others say zone 7 & 8. If it wont survive zone 6 through winter how do I say mine?

Penstemons are easy to root from cuttings. Yould could take cuttings in the fall to bring in the house - just in case it doesn't make it. I think drainage will be the big concern for wintering over. You'll want to plant it in a place that doesn't remain waterlogged all winter. The chances of it surviving will be better.

I love these too!! There isn't too much that I don't love!! The Apple Blossom is lovely and so is Sour Grapes, but not quite so hardy. A point to make here - back home they flowered for a longer time for me than they do over here.
