Too Early for Long Island???

I keep reading about everyone planting this and that and I have to say that I am so sick of this crummy weather here on Long Island and I really want to get my vines I had bought bare root and have been growing in my house-Outside.
Is it too early? I cant stand these plants in my house anymore. These little flying bugs are driving me crazy. I use bug spray but I think its just energy food for them. I dont keep plants in my house because of the bugs. Not worth it for me I guess.
So will I kill my little vines if I boot them outside now??
thanks

Janice, What are the temps for you now? You can put them outside during the day if it's not exceedingly cold and bring them in again at night. Gradually get them used to being outside. If day temps are still low, then I think you will have to put up with it for a while longer. BTW what are the vines?

Lousia
Daytime temps are average 45 degrees. Havent had any freezing temps for a little bit. Nights do go below freezing tho.
Vines are Clematis (Ramona and Nelly Moser) Wisteria and Grape.

If the ground is not frozen then it's OK to plant the vines. It just does bother me a little that maybe planting them out in the garden when they have been used to warm temps might put them into shock. I think your best bet is to put them out during the day, bring them in at night and when the night frosts are over then plant them outside. Try and keep them indoors in a bright but cool room, preferably one with no heat. I know the clematis don't mind the cold once they are in the ground but not sure about the other vines, especially the grape.

Thanks Louisa
I will start them outside tomorrow. Bring them indoors at night. Will do this untill the night frosts are over. Thanks for the help and the light at the end of the tunnel.

Hi Janice,

Louisa is right about acclimating your vines. The same would go for the grape vine as well. It should take about two weeks, then I would say it si safe to put them in their permanant home.

puttyrat :)
